Jellydonut, you gotta check this show out sober first sometime. It's actually a very legitimately well-made show! And, yeah, while its primary demographic is pre-teen girls, Lauren Faust has gone on record to say that they intentionally designed the series to appeal to parents, including dads, so the show's popularity really just goes to show how very well they did their job.
