You must show no mercy, nor have any belief whatsoever in how others judge you... for your greatness will silence them all!

A very good review of THE MYSTERIANS from the May 25, 1959 issue of Boxoffice Magazine:

A review of GIGANTIS THE FIRE MONSTER from the June 8, 1959 issue of Boxoffice Magazine:

Note the listed ratio of 1.85:1. This doesn't surprise me at all, since American theaters had almost entirely switched to widescreen by 1959.

A review of RODAN from the December 7, 1957 issue of Boxoffice Magazine:

This film, like GIGANTIS, is listed with an AR of 1.85:1. I have no doubt that is how they were meant to be exhibited in the US.

Seahawk, these contemporary reviews are awesome. It interesting to see how the films that we love were originally received--and marketed! Really excellent stuff, thanks Seahawk!

those posters for Godzilla vs. The Thing were SO misleading.

I remember being TITILLATED to see Godzilla fighting some tentacled aberration, and being slightly let-down when it was Mothra...

of course, that was many moons ago, when I was probably like 7 or 8 and thought "Godzilla vs. THE THING!?!?! ZOMG! COOLZORS!!"
