The Mist

Haven't seen it in a long time, was like watching it for the first time. Great movie, OH GODZILLA, WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE up ending. Still made it more amazing though!!

The Orphanage

I wonder why people didn't like this as much? I know that it was more directed to parents/guardians, but I thought this movie was amazing! The mystery was good, some scenes did make me jump or stay on the tip of my seat, and the acting was superb! The photography sparked my interest as well, many of the settings were gorgeous. All in all, Del Toro definitely knows how to make a movie. :)

I laughed like a mad man in the theater when I knew the ending to The Mist was going to happen...it was soooo dark and messed up! I think a lot of parents don't like it from what I've seen. As I'm not a parent, I just see it as fiction and good, twisted fiction at that

I liked The Mist a lot and thought the ending was perfect. It was awful and I hated it, but I loved it. If you've seen the movie, then you know exactly what I'm talking about.

Robinson Crusoe on Mars (1964) - what a great movie! I picked up the Criterion Bluray at Borders for about 1/2 off with their going out of business sale, having never seen it. Worth every penny. Despite the alien ships being recycled from 1953's War of the Worlds (with some slight modifications), they are pulled off on screen in a wonderful way. Their movement is so...alien. It's great! And seeing Adam West in a role that's not Batman was just strange, but in a good way. Too bad his part was so small. But the actors who played the two main characters did a great job & were very likeable in their roles. I wish Hollywood would wake up from crap like that Disney guy in the scifi/fantasy sub forum and start making more character-driven adventure films like this. This is the kind of stuff that spurs the imagination and sparks new ideas!

Sphere (1998) - better than I thought it would be. It was actually pretty good. It's been years since I read the book, but the movie was more faithful to it than I thought it would be based on what I remembered reviews saying when it came out. Overall I'd say it's an admirable adaptation. It's more faithful than, say... Jurassic Park was, but it's not as good of a movie.... Still, 3 out of 5 stars.

Rain Man

This was an interesting and suprisingly, comedic film. I loved the story and have seen several documentaries based upon Kim Peek and thought that this film was very interesting and I'm sure he loved the film himself. I didn't really intend on watching this film in the beginning, but it does draw your attention as soon as it starts. I didn't enjoy the score in this film though.

Gigantis the Fire Monster

Godzilla Raids Again, but crammed with inane dubbing and useless stock footage. Either totally hilarious or extremely annoying, depending on your mood at the time. It was getting late, so I found it funny at the beginning, but as I got sleepier and grumpier the Americanization got more and more on my nerves.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Amazing. Just when you think you're burned out on summer blockbusters someone does one right. Apes and Super 8 won the marathon this summer in my book.

Did a Japanese chick flick triple feature -- Tokyo Gore Police, Samurai Princess, The Machine Girl -- and followed it with another Asian gorefest called "The Meat Grinder", or as I like to think of it, Sweeney Thai.

Rodan

A real highlight of '50s and '60s Toho sci-fi (and there's a lot of highlights!). Gojira seemed to use the monster-on-the-loose form and transcend it, whereas Rodan just sort of embraces and runs with it, with great results!

Predators...better than I expected but still pointless stuff like Topher Grace's badly fleshed out character and the "two breeds" of predator.

Currently watching Alphas...a show on the sci-fi channel. Kind of a take on Heroes...it's pretty good so far.
