Keep in mind this could also be a post-Godzilla project. Guillermo del Toro was attached to Frankenstein when he was doing Hellboy and he's since been attached to (and went through pre-production on) Mountains of Madness and is now doing Pacific Rim, which (supposedly) will be followed by Frankenstein. Sounds like Edwards is just making sure he has projects lined up. Filmmakers tend to like to always have things to fall back on. These guys gotta eat, ya know?

wow a lot of knee-jerk negative reaction that's pretty unwarranted. All I had to do was look at the budget for this new "robotic star wars" and once I saw $35 million-which is 35% less than the budget for Gigli (not even adjusting for inflation)-and I knew this is just a little project that would be done in addition to, and NOT in lieu of, the LP Godzilla.
