Saw it last night with Kiryugoji and thought it was great. I admittedly wasn't "Omigod! Omigod! It was awesome!!!" after finishing it, and you can even say I was a little... underwhelmed. Yet there is nothing inherently wrong with the movie as far as I can see. The expansion of the Ultra-verse is great, I love the fantasy/fairy tale angle, the new heroes are awesome, the final battle is widespread... all-in-all, an awesome spectacle Ultra film.

...But for some reason I remember enjoying Ultra Galaxy Legends more. I'll have to go back and watch it and see how it sits. For some reason it felt like a "bigger" moviegoing experience to me, despite the sequel's much wider scale. Maybe it's the wire-fu or the heavy visual style, I'm not sure. Ultra Galaxy just felt more exciting for some reason. ...I'll need to give both a re-watch.

And of course, I initially liked Mebius and the Ultra Brothers more than Super 8 Ultra Brothers, but shortly after the latter shot up on my list as a way, way better film than the former, so who knows? :dunno:

Holy freaking God. Just finished watching the movie for the first time, and thought it was brilliant! Everything from the improved green-screen work, development of Zero's character, to the brilliant and widespread expansion of the Ultra-verse was handled with relevant granduer as well as intricacy. I'm glad I waited to watch it subtitled first time. I thought it was great, and has certainly raised the bar into the stratosphere for future Ultra installments. And I know, I'm fanboying-out - I don't care!

And Goddammit, as if the last couple of movies/TV shows hadn't made it obvious enough, this movie now sets it in stone - every Ultra TV series and movie is canon with each other. The focus on alternate realities and dimensions, as well as crossovers from different continuities, can only mean this is what Tsuburaya wants to get across. Also, love that the movie finally gave us an origin for The Next, Nexus, and Noa.

Great movie. Wonder if Tsuburaya can match it this year?

Finally got sit down and watch it. Although I really enjoyed it I still hold to my opinion that Mega Monster Battle is a superior film.

A few nitpicks was that the villains in the film really weren't all that. Darklops Zero was criminally underused (I really wanted to know how they ended up with Belial's hands) in that past the first act, they were nowhere to be seen. I was glad to see the battle between the Darklops, Zero, and Seven however. That was an excellent battle. The same goes for Belial himself who only really appeared at the conclusion of the film. The two henchmen were kind of a disappointment as well. Also, like I feared, the other heroes in the film overshadowed the Ultras which really didn't bother me as much as I thought, however, it would have been nice to see the Ultra warriors get some more screen time. Oh and the pirates were retarded.

There was a lot of positive aspects as well, the story was better then I thought it would have been as were the special effects. The Legionoids and the Darcklops army were cool and Arch Belial was AMAZING. I get the feeling his inclusion was a wink to us Godzilla fans like when his crystals would charge up before he shoot his ray. Awesome!

Overall I really enjoyed the movie and I'll be watching it again in the near future I'm sure.

In all fairness, I think they're about equal in terms of production quality, I just dig the fairytale, space opera feel of Zero a lot more than the HO MAH GAWD ACTION of Legends. I also prefer the 1970s Ultra series to the 1960s (!), so there you go.

Yeah, so I rewatched the first act of this film again today on a break in between classes and, hot damn, this is definitely very closely tied with The Super 8 Ultra Brothers as my second-favorite all-time Ultra film. Maybe even surpassing the 2008 film completely?! D8

Well, let's not be rash...!
