Why? Why do this rather generic gargoyles movie when Disney already has THE Gargoyles?

Gargoyles is fantastic for adapting to a movie -- great characters and great story. The first movie is pretty much set, just do "Awakening" in live action.

In fact, I think Disney should have been working on an adaptation well before now. If Disney had a movie ready for release sometime next year they could potentially grab the Harry Potter movie audience that is bound to be looking for a new movie series in the same vein.
