BUG: Just to switch gears a little bit, I just reviewed GODZILLA on the site.

PH: Yeah, thank you. I read it.

BUG: Oh, you did. Good, good. It was just an amazing issue. What was it like having that come out after all of the craziness that was happening over in Japan?

PH: It was rough. I think most people understand we do comics so far ahead that we have no sort of control over that sort of thing and in the case of #1 it was actually printed and sitting in the warehouse before the earthquake. We were just like “Oh boy…â€

Yikes!

Remember all the happiness here when Godzilla #1 debuted at #16 on the top 300 comicbook sales chart?
http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/19837.html

Well issue #2 debuted at #120. :o

I've heard of sophomore drops but falling out of the top 16 to the bottom of the top 120 and go from selling almost 60,000 copies to just over 14,000 copies, is pretty alarming.

I thought IDW's stuff usually sold in the 10,000-15,000 range and that the high sales for the first book were only because of the promotional stuff. Wouldn't 14,000 copies be considered normal for IDW's stuff, or am I missing something from the last couple pages?

It's only alarming if you ignore IDW's other releases.

On IDW's chart, they've dropped from #1 to #3 (behind TRUE BLOOD TAINTED LOVE #3 and INFESTATION #2). I, for one, expected sales to drop WAY down considering that #1 sold over 50,000 copies while IDW's top books normally sell between 10,000 to 15,000. I was hoping it would stay MUCH higher, but...ah well. C'est la vie?

What's interesting, as kitik pointed out over at Toho Kingdom, is that Godzilla #1 is at #145. They sold another 10,800 copies in April, making it IDW's sixth best-selling book for the month! The real question is, if Godzilla #1 is selling so well they needed to order over 10,000 more copies to satisfy demand in April, how is it #2 sold only 14,000 copies? Since orders are placed several months in advance (I don't know how second printing orders are placed), and considering how many people have had trouble finding #2 with how quickly it sold it in many stores, I suspect we're going to see a large second printing of Issue #2 and see it jump a bit higher in the charts next month.

Did everybody just turn a blind eye to on the last page or what? :-\

Additionally, if the figures on those charts represent retailer orders for those issues' printings, and they ordered 14,000 copies of G:KOM #2, wouldn't that mean that #1 must have sold roughly that many copies off store shelves?
