The Basics: An alien matches wits with the Patrol...
The Plot: I like the basic idea of this one: an alien with a bizarre code of honor wants a human to basically invite him to take over the planet. Reminds me of the old vampire myth that says one can't enter your home unless invited. That said...the execution isn't as dynamic as it could have been. I do like the fact that the episode ends with both sides saying...this is kind of pointless...let's call it quits...for now.
The Kaiju: Mephiras(notice the name's similiarity to Mephisto/Mephistopheles) is a different kind of opponent. He wants to ourwit...not outfight his foes. The kaiju Fuji was inspired...as was his illusions of other Ultra aliens. On the other hand...the costume made him look fat...baby got back...sheesh. Given how the remainder of the series goes...it's easy to envision episodes 34 and 36 as plots by Mephiras to get back at the Patrol..and also feasible he helped the alien Kemur...outfit Zetton to defeat Ultraman in the final episode.
The Acting: Hisaya Ito stars in his second Ultraman episode(he played Diamond Kick in episode 6). He's mostly nondescript here though.
The SPFX: Not bad...nice to see an actual human wrecking the city.
The Other Stuff: By this point, the main question is...what happened to Hoshino? Also, can Mephiras freely attack Earth if anyone agrees to his offer...or does it have to be an innocent/virtuous person? And the Patrol seems to know Kemur....so seems likely this show has strong continuity with Ultra Q(the Patrol also recognized Ragon...another Ultra Q returnee in episode 4). Overall, a good episode, but it could have been more...
