Boxes!

Postby Hesei » Fri Apr 15, 2011 12:12 pm

So, I used to be really into keeping all the materials from collectibles - packages, packaging, and pack-ins (flyers, instructions, etc). There was some reasoning to this: I could build with the empty boxes from floor to ceiling! Actually, I have the 30cm X-Plus stuff out and it looks very nice. Or I could easily repack things for storage or moving.
This really saved me recently when I asked Bill Jones to repair an X-Plus Ghidorah in rough shape.

Of course, I also had PLENTY of space to do this, at the time. Now, I'm stuck with limited space and sick of holding on to this crap. I can't display most of it and really wouldn't need to since I hung shelves and built bookcases.

A while back, I tossed out the foam from the inside of most of my X-Plus statue boxes. I want to do the same to the giant Megahouse, Atelier, and Bandai stuff I have in storage. But I've been holding onto the boxes, still.
I can't see using this stuff for display, anymore, especially the big stuff.

So I was wondering what the rest of you do. Do you just toss it all out? Put it away? What?
Are any collectors in need of some of these?

I guess I'm trying to change my hording ways (it ain't that bad, but it sure feels like it). Any thoughts?

I keep tags in a baseball card binder. Boxes and other packaging (like Star Wars figures) are generally thrown away unless it's something like the box for the revoltechs or my Sideshow 1/6 figures where the boxes store the extra pieces & can be easily used to repack the toy for moving or storage.

Oh, & the boxes I do keep go in plastic tubs in the basement.

Since the only boxes I keep include the inserts/plastic trays to be able to safely repack the figures, breaking down the boxes wouldn't make any sense as I'd still have to store the trays...

I guess I could always throw out those boxes too & just store the extra pieces neatly organized in tackle boxes but I just can't bring myself to do that yet. (plus I'm fairly certain I'll move again within the next decade or less, so having nice safe custom-fitted boxes to pack my more expensive/fragile figures for moving is a big reason for saving them).
