The Bloom County Collection: Volume 3 1984-1986 by Berkeley Breathed

Still my favorite comic strip, and it did so much for my political and cultural awareness during my teen years.

I recently-ish finished The Hunger Games trilogy.

they were generally good. the first one was far and away the best.

in general they were a tad predictable but overall they were good, fast-paced reads with a good deal of imagination

i describe the trilogy as a combination of 1984 and Lord of the Flies...

Atlantis and Other Places by Harry Turtledove

A collection of short stories by the alternative history specialist -- John Audobon searches for giant birds in Atlantis, World War II as covered by modern journalism standards, and an American president and his terrorist archnemesis get married, among others.

Oscar Wilde and a Death of No Importance: When Oscar Wilde chances across the naked corpse of sixteen-year-old Billy Wood, posed by candlelight in a dark attic room, he cannot ignore the brutal murder. With the help of fellow author Arthur Conan Doyle he sets out to solve the crime - but it is Wilde's unparalleled access to all degrees of late-Victorian life, from society drawing rooms and the bohemian demi-monde, to the underclass, that will prove the decisive factor in their investigation of what turns out to be a series of brutal killings.

This afternoon I read True West, a play by Sam Shepard, and am now up in the middle of the night writing a term paper about it.

Cool, huh?

I read Godzilla On My Mind years ago. I remember thinking the chapter devoted to G'54 was great and then the following chapter devoted to the rest of the series was just awful. Tsutsui seemed like the only Godzilla films he liked were the original and GMK, and that it was really important to him that his readers not consider him a geek or a nerd, but he decided to write a book about Godzilla anyway.
