I really liked the first issue. Was it the best comic book ever? No,but I'm more interested in this than I am Flashpoint or Fear Itself or whatever. I thought the Obama scene was funny, despite ebirah's classy political rant.
As for people's gripes with the issue? If you think Godzilla ate little kids in this comic, you're not very smart. I mean serously,it's not Kafka or something,it's a comic book about Godzilla. You should be able to figure it out. There's a professional illustration, for Christ's sake. I think Ghidorah should get a gold star for his insane rant about something that did not occur in a story he did not read. Come on,guys. I understand it's fun to bash "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" on the internet but at least skim through the book first. The old lady, yes it was IMPLIED that she was squashed, but comparing it to a Jason movie is more than a little silly.
I do agree that the nuke descision was made way too quickly, but I'm thinking month after month of Goji hitting planes and tanks would get old. Also you gotta figure they told Powell to wrap up this first story in 6 issues so it reads well as a trade. That's just the way comics are these days.
