Sounds like he needs a Gary Kurtz type to keep him from going overboard.

This came up from Roger Ebert on my Facebook Feed:

"I thought I was being prudent in skipping the "Sucker Punch" screening. I'm writing my memoirs and need every minute. Now it's sinking in that I missed an extraordinary film. My Chicago friend Peter Sobczynski says it was so bad, when the lobotomist turned up he wanted to scream, "I'll have what she's having!" Have you read a PeterSob review?"

Same thing, 300 was great to watch in IMAX, then I got the dvd, and barely made it through it.

DOTD..... One-Two punch in the theater, and it has its moments, (precredits sequence, credits sequence, first half of movie, really) but it just does not have staying power...too geared toward modern younger audiences (the kind that seem to hate to have to think, shuffling around any typical suburban mall just like the zombies in the '78 version) no intriguing subtext, all gloss. Barely made it through on DVD recently. The 1978 one, the CLASSIC, for all its quaintness and low budget and perhaps BECAUSE of it, is the one that STAYS with you, as it should be!

Watchmen..... I'll watch it again, I'll get hold of the director's cut, not sure what it has on it, but the movie was visually rapturous to watch. Didn't resonate very much with me, but credit where credit is due, it held my attention all the way through and I will watch it again. :)

Sucker Punch...... I needed a night out, and someone suggested this. I knew it was getting trashed, and figured at least I'll get some neat 300-like visuals, but what an empty experience. I even dozed off during one of the big effects sequences. And that end credits sequence...WTF? I later read that those Moulin-Rouge sequences were meant to be sprinkled throughout the movie. If that's the case, maybe what we got was the lesser of two evils. :?
