The Last Dinosaur- It's been years since I've seen it so I decided to track a copy down online and watch it. Was pretty good though the suit is kind of cheesy at times. Defiently going to pick up the new MOD version from WB asap.

The Social Network- I enjoyed it and glad Trent won an oscar for his score which was pretty sweet. The film itself was really good too.

IP Man

Such a great movie! Loved every bit of it. If IP Man really did fight like that, no wonder Bruce Lee was an amazing fighter!

Sukiyaki Western Django

Yojimbo meets A Fistful of Dollars, Miike style. Pretty cool samurai-Western mashup with the sets and costumes, but it was hard to understand the actors speaking English. Special guest Quentin Tarantino proves once again that he's better behind the camera.

Tarzan, The Ape Man

The original MGM film with Johnny Weissmuller as Tarzan. The film lacks focus, but maybe this lackadaisical attitude toward the plot is a part of the charm, with 1933 audiences just happy to watch this guy ride elephants, fight lions, and talk to apes even if it doesn't further the (not too terribly interesting) plot about finding an elephant graveyard.

Despite certain technical limitations of the time (sometimes the characters don't interact with the African stock footage as well as Raymond Burr did with the original Gojira footage!) the film is entertaining.

Godzilla Raids Again- I hadn't watched the American version "Gigantis" in so long I decided to watch it again this week. I like the pacing a lot better than the Japanese version which seems to drag for some reason and other than the goofy dubbing and them using Anguirus' roar for Godzilla a few times it's not that bad of a film.

Godzilla's Revenge- Same as above watched the English version because I hadn't seen it in awhile. There are somethings I like about this movie but for the most part I don't care for it due to it being composed mainly of stock footage. Plus who ever dubbed Ichiro there where a few instances where I couldn't make out what he was saying, a lot off the dub actors where like that too I guess. Another thing I found was that the movie has a slight window box to it.

Love Stinks- This is a movie from the late 90s starring French Stewart (3rd Rock From the Sun) and Bridget Wilson (Billy Madison) who meet at a friends wedding and they start dating and she pushes like crazy to get married. French doesn't think he's ready for it by the time frame she gives him so she goes psycho and shennigans insue. This isn't as good as I remember it being and Wilson isn't as good as she was in Billy Madison.

Popeye

So I've been going on a Popeye spree lately, buying DVDs of the cartoons and books of the old comics, so just had to see the Robin Williams starring film too (which I haven't seen since I was about four or five).

This film has been much maligned but I think it's terrific! Most of the time when actors are asked to play cartoons they try to hard to act cartoony, where in this film they just.... well, become cartoons naturally! I can see that that put a lot of people off: the film is a mixture of absurd, over-the-top camp and slice-of-life naturalism. There's not really much of a plot, just a series of incidents like a collection of comic strips or a bunch of cartoons shown together.

And it's musical! This also put people off: instead of show stopping showtunes the songs are folksy, simple, and repetitive. I also think they're great (especially "I Yam What I Yam" and "He Needs Me"). They were written by Harry Nilsson, who's a great singer songwriter.

The only complaint I have is that the final desplays of strength of the newly spinach-powered Popeye should hqave been more spectacular, but I understand that they ran out of money and had to scale back the finale. So it goes!

Strange Behavior

Couldn't sleep last night and ended up watching this on TCM Underground, an early '80s low-budget horror (/sci-fi/mystery thriller) about mind contol experiments in a college at a small town. Despite certain budget and... err, acting limitations, there's some clever writing and a few inspired moments of directions that make it rise above to some extent. The guy who wrote it ended later directed Gods and Monsters and Kinsey (and apparently the next Twilight film).

Blazing Saddles

New HD set up, first BluRay watched. So I didn't just watch Blazing Saddles, I watched it in near big-screen quality! (I love this format)

Anyway, I sincerely hope I don't have to explain why this movie is so great. This and Young Frankenstein are what give Mel Brooks god of comedy status.
