I've introduced nephews and kids of friends and coworkers to kaiju flicks over the years, but I'm surprised your 12 year old sister took a liking to it. Kids are so jaded these days that I'd assume you'd have to introduce them younger for the charm of the movies to work.
In fact, one of my nephews turned 11 last year. Over the years, he's borrowed all of my kaiju DVDs and has acquired a complete (save for Memorial Box exclusives) collection of 6" Bandais (mostly as gifts from me). He had them all displayed in his room. He really loved this stuff. However, my sister confided in me late last year that he had become embarrassed to have other kids see them, and that he didn't want to tell me because he didn't want to hurt my feelings

. That blew my mind (I of course told her to pack them away).
I've been into Godzilla and the like since I was a kindergartener (maybe even earlier), but I went through a "too cool for Godzilla" phase too, certainly not at 11 years old though.
Anyway, didn't mean to derail your thread. It's awesome that your little sister digs Gamera. There's hope for our youth yet.
