Watched Gamera 1 and 2 on blu-ray. Gamera 2 is, hands-down, the best of the trilogy. Legion is a great enemy, and I love his explanation. I do dig the look and effects of G3, but the plot feels too vague and anime-ish. So, G2 all the way.

Shadow of the Thin Man

The forth movie in the series, like the second, is set in Nick and Nora's home of San Francisco. I love that they keep continuity in these films: when they went back to NY in the last movie they met back up with Lieutenant Guild from the first film and with this set in the same location as movie two we have Lieutenant Abrams again.

Anyway, the story involves murder in a gambling syndicate. It's not quite as good as the first three films by my estimation, but it's still pretty good.

Thin Man Goes Home and Song of the Thin Man

These last two Thin Man Movies didn't really do it for me. For one thing the director of the first four (W.S. Van Dyke) died and the new directors just never get the tone right. As for two specific things that bugged me: they put Nick on the wagon (as if anyone thought his comic, functional alcoholism was anything but pure fantasy) and Nora's intellegence fluctuates so that sometimes she seems like a teenage girl.

Both movies are worth watching, but not near the quality of the first four.

Paranormal Activity

I liked it. Was pretty good judging it was made with a small budget.

The Happening

Good idea, just wasn't portrayed correctly.

Planet Terror

Just shoot me, I love Grindhouse movies!

A double feature of Machine Girl and RoboGeisha.

Teenage Japanese girls wielding heavy artillery. Blood and guts and slicing and dicing. Shooting a hole in a guy and then shooting the guy behind him through said hole. Head soup. Finger sushi. Fried tempura hands. Drill bras. Ass swords. Girls that turn into tanks. Castles that turn into giant robots.

And there are people out there who would rather watch Jennifer Anniston movies?

Tron: Legacy. Better than I expected. Thoroughly enjoyable, with a soundtrack so good I immediately went out and bought it.

Billy Jack. Wow. I'd never seen any of the Billy Jack movies, but this one has made me want to search out the rest. A little rough around the edges, but still a great story with wonderful characters and some truly excellent performances. Highly recommended.

Inception - holy moly! Why did I go this long without seeing this? (why did I not go see this in the theater?!) Really great movie. Such a cool concept and done SO well. And the action was really great! I loved the snow dream that felt like a bond movie. I need to see this again... soon!

Scott Pilgrim vs the World: wow, great movie. Much better than I was expecting.
Black Swan: got dragged to this with a few of my friends. Meh. Every time Natalie Portman cries I think, "Anakin, you're breaking my heart!" and every time Mila Kunis talks I think, "Shut up, Meg."
Mothra vs Godzilla: got the Toho blu-ray this week. Looks fantastic!
Mega Monster Battle - Ultra Galaxy the Movie: again, on blu-ray. Liked this one much more than I thought I would. A hell of a lot of fun.

The Social Network

I liked it - makes me want to not join Facebook and to bring back long-form letter writing. The music is great.

Did anyone else think they might have gone a little overboard with the "Mark Zuckerberg = Tragic Hero" bit?
