This is good news, IMHO. With Monsters Edwards gave us a totally solid story of interesting human drama featuring the monsters in the background.

He doesn't need to change that focus TOO much in order to make a competent Godzilla film.
All the very BEST Godzilla films have great human drama and/or interesting human characters. Hopefully, this news is a sign that those in charge of creating this movie have realized that.

I'd obviously like it to focus on Godzilla more than Monsters focused on its creatures, but I for one am very happy that we didn't get someone who'd focus only on the effects...I'm REALLY happy Leterrier isn't our man.

I'll believe it when I see it, but this news does sound promising! I'll have to check out MONSTERS when it comes out on DVD.

I'm hoping this director will give Godzilla the soul he needs, human drama that won't make us cringe, and... yes... copious amounts of angry kaiju destruction. :D

I find it troubling that this guy has said his favorite monster movies were Kong and the Harryhausen films, but NOT Godzilla. I've got bad vibes here.

This movie is probably going to blow. Flame me now, I don't care. There's going to be a lot of let down, pissed off fans in 2012.

When you guys watch MONSTERS, don't go in thinking it as a Godzilla film.... seriously, you'll be very upset. Think of it as a 'character' film. It'll show you how he'll handle the characters in G2012.. but I think G2012 will be much better with that then MONSTERS.

I do encourage everyone to watch MONSTERS and see exactly what his idea of "human drama" will look and sound like. Put that crap in Godzilla and there will be tons of fans asking for refunds.
