I think technically its a well done film. Choreography and visual effects all hit the right spots. But the pacing of the film, character development is very stilted.... And honestly the whole thing with the magic stone has been done many many times.... Couldnt they have given more thought into an alternate means of having Gamera power up?
And the final confrontation between Gamera and Zedeus was very underwhelming. Seemed like an inferior quick draw match ie: what happened in GOTU between Gyaos and Gamera....albeit done with more horrible composite digitial effects. The fireball in GOTU even after 15 years looks way better than GTB....
Other fight scenes were fine....but ultimately the climax sucked......
Citizen cane was citizen cane.... And Gamera 3 was Gamera 3..... There are obvious expections to the rule. That however doesnt mean that all movies that do bad in theatres are good now does it? And vice versa that goes the same for all movies that do well at the boxoffice are not all good either eh?
Does that mean GTB is good? Not really.... Pinning your hopes on critics having re-evaluated the film to send it into new critical heights? Not likely. Lets face it people, this film unlike Citizen Cane will not usher in a new period or standard in cinema. As well....films that usually are remembered fondly either get very good reviews when initially released...or do remarkably well at the B.O. GTB did not achieve either. And probably NEVER will. Its technically a good entry.....but not a very remarkable one either....
