Over at the SH boards and it's not so much the one villian they just don't think the Lizard is a big enough name to support a movie on his own at least with out establishing the character first due to his complex relationship with Peter. Well the same could be said about any villian hell the Green Goblin/Osbourne has a more complex relationship with SM than the Lizard and they did just fine with having him star in the first film.

Which IMO makes no sense because any villian if given the right story can be established in one film.

As long as they keep The Lizard true to the comics and don't find it to be "too campy to work" for him to actually talk, I think The Lizard could carry a full film just fine...

I mean, I could see a Hollywood director thinking, "No way would audiences buy it if a guy turned into a giant lizard and could still talk and strategize and think"
which would be a stupid, elitist notion in the first place, but would also keep The Lizard from working fully as the lone villain.

That's the thing everyone at SH counts the lizard as one of SM's top rogues but due to his complex nature with Peter ie being a sort of father figure, having his own family, etc. etc. they don't see the Lizard being able to support a film on his own with out first establishing the character.

Now I haven't posted my thoughts on the subject yet over there but the Lizard can support a film on his own. There logic can be applied to pretty mcuh any spiderman villian especially Green Goblin who has an even more complex relationship because you got factor in the father figure thing, the GG being Peter's best friend father, etc.

I think it all just boils down to fans not wanting the lizard to get messed up like Venom but the way I see it is that if Lizard is the only villian in the movie then they can give ample character development and still pull off a good film with him as the villian.

If there's a second villian I'd prefer it to be Kraven for obvious reasons stated before.

I'm just hoping the movie is good, if the Lizard is the villian (I'm sure he is but I want official confirmation) then my hopes will go up, I've wanted the Lizard in a movie since the series started 8 years ago well 9 now that 2010 is almost over.

We should get some concrete info soon because the movie is starting filming in a few weeks.
