I've had the same TV for about six years now, never messed with the calibration, but things look better on it than just about any other TV, computer monitor or portable DVD player I've seen. The nighttime scenes on Sony's Godzilla vs. Hedorah and Godzilla vs. Gigan DVDs look way too dark in screencaps I've seen online, but on my TV, they're crystal clear and you can easily discern everything.

I watched Hedorah on a 27-inch HDTV last year and it looked terrible. The scene where Godzilla is burning garbage in the ocean after his first fight with Hedorah was perpetually black, with only his atomic ray and the ensuing steam being visible. On my TV, you can see the silhouetted figure of Godzilla against the night sky even before he uses his atomic ray.

If you ever use that TV again Ben maybe try adjusting contrast levels. Also it could have different settings for black levels which you might want to try adjusting as well.

Another question where you watching the movie on a standalone DVD player or was it a video game console? The reason I ask is because video game consoles like the PS3 and 360 have settings for black levels that can be adjusted.

Hey guys! Found another positive review on this website.

The screenshots taken by this reviewer seem to show much more detail than ever before. Definitely more interested in getting this now. The shots truely show off all the detail in the kaiju suits.

One of my copies came today (got impatient with DVD Pacific and ordered a copy off eBay - of course the DVD Pacific order shows up first!). It looks very nice - you all only familiar with the ADV DVDs are in for a treat, esp. with the first film.

I'll sell the other disc I'm getting to anybody in the states for $10, shipped (I can take Paypal). Pm if interested.

Oh, and I liked AVP (haven't seen AVP-R).

I'm always seeing/hearing something new in the blu-rays I get. I never knew you could hear Kong '33 hit the pavement after falling off the ESB, till I watched the blu-ray and heard it for the first time.

In Gamera: GotU, I never knew Gyaos was eating a horse at the bridge scene (right before he swoops down on the humans). But was watching the new blu and thought, "was that a horse whinnying I heard?" Sure enough, they cut to Gyaos and he's chowing down on a horse. First time I'd heard and seen just what he was eating. Consider that a recommendation for the disc!
