You must show no mercy, nor have any belief whatsoever in how others judge you... for your greatness will silence them all!

you know what else I'd like to see in an ideal world (but would be REALLY tough to pull off convincingly in the movie world)?

Godzilla attacking during a blizzard.

The problem with that is, movie snow never looks like real snow, unless it IS real snow (like in Up in the Air).

Sorry, but I really don't get what all the "praise" is for this recent fan photo/design. Overall, it's better than alot of the other "fan designs" ( :puke: ) that have popped up online, but that's not exactly difficult to accomplish. It's rather generic looking, and the dorsal fins look horrible. And please, spare me all the tired "some fans just can't accept any changes to his design" arguments whenever these fan designs pop up (seems like one pops up every few weeks). TOHO themselves has changed/tweaked the design throughout G's history, and sometimes I dig it, sometimes I don't...and in this case, I don't.

So if Godzilla is to be made, I wonder when a movie like this would be released? My gut feeling would be a summer release as a major blockbuster. Or perhaps a winter christmas release.

So far after 6 months since the announcement i see little work being done. Now with rumors that Legendary is still working on getting a "good" script and shopping around for a director to helm the project, i think the 2012 date is a bit of a stretch no?

I hate to say it but...."I told you so" To all those that honestly thought that this movie would be ready by 2012? I knew that this wouldnt happen right from the start. Godzilla is a convulted franchise that will take time to fix up, to restructure if you will into a coherent hollywood film fit for an International (North American) audience.

At this point i think all of us here should just forget about the film coming in 2012 and just hope it doesnt go into development hell pushing release date into 2015.

I'm not merely going to say that we can expect the movie to hit theaters in 2012, I'm calling the release date, December 21, 2012, Why?

-- It's the last Friday before Christmas, in the States that's when Christmas break begins in virtually all school districts. It's a great time to release a movie, two solid weeks of free time gives a movie plenty of opportunites to bring in theater-goers. Just look at Avatar, it was released on the Dec. 18, 2009 - the last Friday before Christmas and the second weekend's take had scarecely fallen from the opening weekend's (not even 2%).

-- The Mayan long count calender ends on Dec. 21, 2012; I'm sure you've seen a special or three on one of the Discovery Channels or the History Channel. I expect we'll see more shows & specials in increasing frequency over the next couple of years and the channels are taking every opportunity to make sure most everyone is aware of the date. Legendary Pictures has an excellent opportunity to take advantage of some free advertising "groundwork".

The Mayan calender's ending makes for great story fodder all by itself, and the Godzilla movie can also take advantage of disaster/big change aspects of the calender's ending like few stories could. Add in an ARG (Alternate Reality Game, such as the one used for The Dark Knight) along with regular advertising that also takes advantage of the calender connection and LP could build a lot of interest.
