Mother's Day (2010/11 remake)

The Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw 2-4, REPO: The Genetic Opera) remake of Troma's campy slasher film Mother's Day is getting mixed reviews everywhere. While the Troma movie was well... a Troma movie, Bousman took the general concept and apparently made something MUCH different. A serious, character based, dramatic horror film. Not a bad approach for a remake, actually. Take a bad movie and try to make it good, right?

No trailer yet, but here's a glowing review from Dread Central: http://www.dreadcentral.com/reviews/mothers-day-2010

BUT! Actually, I just made this thread as an excuse to direct people to a REALLY good blog posting that Bousman made after the film's screening at Fantastic Fest. Basically, the film got REALLY glowing reviews from the few who had seen it before the Fest, and now its become one of the most divisive horror films of the year. Bousman was very taken aback by the negative reviews and the blog is his take on taking negative criticism as a film maker and its a really good read.

I haven't liked any of this guy's films, but this blog post alone makes him awesome in my book. Instead of taking criticism badly and flipping the hell out on people and blaming everyone BUT themselves for a film's failure, (*cough*M. Night Shayamalan, Eli Roth, Samuel Bayer*cough*) Bousman is very level headed and cool about the whole thing. I think this is the attitude that more director's need to show when it comes to their own work... take criticism like a man and use it to improve yourself... don't blame everyone BUT yourself if your movie is poorly received.

Even though I've hated all his movies thus far, Bousman is a bad-ass for this blog entry. And I'll probably check out Mother's Day and hope to be impressed!
