Just saw the midnight screening and honestly found it really disappointing. The action scenes are pretty good (although seemingly edited by a monkey) and the cast really does play off each other well... but that's not enough for me to excuse awful writing, pointless subplots that go nowhere, and character motivations that make NO sense whatsoever (the whole crux of the film is Stallone going back and saving ONE woman he barely knows and all his buddies are willing to risk their lives with him for this stranger). I know I'll be met with a ton of "WHAT WERE YOU EXPECTING, ITS JUST AN ACTION MOVIE" comments, but sorry, even action movies can be GOOD and Stallone's films are usually MUCH better with story than this. Stallone is actually a solid director and this could be his worst directorial effort. And the ending gave me flashbacks to War of the Worlds (not a good thing).
Also, this has BY FAR the worst CGI I've ever seen in a major motion picture. CGI blood and CGI fire look like SyFy channel crap... even Survival of the Dead had better CG. The Willis/Arnold double cameo comes within the first 30 minutes and really isn't anything to get excited about... in fact, Willis never shows up in the same shot as Arnold because he filmed his lines like 2 months later... and it shows in the shoddy editing... so the novelty of seeing all three together in once scene is immediately diminished.
See it for the action scenes and the novelty value of the cast... but that's honestly the ONLY thing it has going for it. Nothing to warrant more than one viewing. If this thing had any other cast, it'd be complete bullsh*t in my eyes, but its obvious that this is just a big group of friends and they play off each other rather nicely.
So ultimately, it had its moments, but utterly failed at giving me that "mangasm" that the trailers promised.
