I was REALLY into the Scream movies when they first came out... but I was also in middle school. Watching them again as an adult, they just don't do it for me (same goes for anything Kevin Smith ever did- I liked it when I was 14, but it just never held up for me). The films think they are more clever than they really are and they have too much a WB teen drama.
And lets not forget, they also started the trend of "Dawson's Creek/WB horror", which is still going on to this day, as well as the uncreative "lets put all the pretty stars on the poster in front of the title" artwork (this was found on EVERY post-Scream horror film in the 90s, even with things like Mimic, which had nothing in common with Scream).
