So, I FINALLY finished Rose Madder a little over two weeks ago (it was not that good...so sue me)
and since then I have been GOBBLING up King books, seems like he finally broke through whatever was holding him back in the late 80s through the mid-90s (beginning with Thinner and ending with Rose Madder with clunkers such as Tommyknockers, Dolores Claiborne and the terribly AVERAGE The Dark Half thrown in - King had been in a slump and of 13 books written during those years there's probably only 2 I'll ever REALLY want to re-read; those being The Eyes of the Dragon and Gerald's Game)
I've since read:
The Green Mile really good but not great. it plugs along a little slowly when you sit and read it all at once due to some overlaps on beginnings, endings and little details since it was a serial novel, but it does have enough differences from the film to merit a read.
Desperation - a near home-run. Desperation has MANY of the calling cards of a GREAT King novel
The Regulators - an absolute home-run. i know in many ways it's the same as Desperation but I prefer the feel of this one...it's a bit more out-there and i like that
Bag of Bones - absolutely a PHENOMENAL novel. this is one of King's absolute BEST.
The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon - let's make that three (four if i want to include Desperation which i really liked at the time but pales in comparison to these three) in a ROW! this book is AMAZING
Dreamcatcher - let the good times roll.
Black House - it's not bad in it's own right, but it's a bit of a disappointing follow-up to both the novel it sequels (The Talisman) and the recent run of absolutely AMAZING reads.
