Ok, I saw it tonight. Thought it was so-so. Gillian Anderson has really aged well, I wish she were in more films. David Duchovny is still the same Mulder. While it started out like a typical CSI episode, it then got creepier until the final revelation.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS!!!!!!!

The final revelation felt like Chris Carter was trying to do a legit remake of The Thing That Couldn't Die and They Saved Hitler's Brain. While I love both of those b-movies to death, it was because of their utter outlandishness, something that did not translate too well in this film, despite attempts to make it serious. I also found the tears of blood scene pretty laughable.

Well, I just got back from seeing this. Don't feel like writing up a big review, but I will say this (spoilers, I guess?):

1) David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson were awesome.
2) Poor Skinner's cameo was too brief and almost pointless (he's basically there simply so people can go "OMGZ SKINNER!!!").
3) Too much "File" and not enough "X." I knew the movie wasn't going to have anything to do with the alien mythology, but I figured there would be SOMETHING paranormal about the plot (yeah, there's Billy Connolly's character, but that's kinda pushing it). This is more Mulder and Scully: The Movie than it is X-Files 2.
4) I liked the cover of the X-Files theme that played during the end credits.
5) According to a review I just read, I apparently missed a post-credits scene. Crap.

Despite points #2 and #3, and the fact I haven't seen an X-Files episode in years, I really enjoyed the movie. I'd give it an A minus... ish.

Finally saw this (my Dad DVRd it on HBO)

even knowing going in that it was more in line with the "monster of the week" type thing and knowing it'd be nothing to do with the aliens, or the smoking man or any of that stuff...i found it pretty bad

Duchovny and Anderson were great but the story is just bland and boring to such a tremendous fault that the very premise behind Mulder and Scully being brought into the case in the first place just seems beyond implausible. Like they LITERALLY couldn't think of ANYTHING good.

The priest was the only thing X-Filey about it and he was almost totally unnecessary...this was like a long version of the WORST Monster of the Week X-Files episode...

REALLY disappointing considering I always liked the Monster of the Week episodes and was looking forward to just a good old-fashioned X-Files episode with some sci-fi/paranormal goings-on.

With Mulder and Scully, it plays out as only SLIGHTLY better than the most bland boring and average thriller that gets cranked out far too regularly these days.
