I think this delay is to be expected...I would assume that Toho would be much more "hands on" this time around with everything from the script...to the director..to the design of Godzilla himself...I would think for better or worse it's safe to assume there are alot of cooks in the kitchen here

I expect it to be a long while before this film gets a director attached, and even longer for it to come out. I think it'd be smart to push it back to a 2013 release simply because that seems safer for this franchise that just doesn't have the box office potential of so many other franchise being released in 2012.

Well, i mean, i know we keep referring to it as G2012, and keep referring to 2012 as the release date, but i'd be surprised if it was any earlier than LATE LATE 2012...

between the TYPICAL delays (script, director, reshoots, actors, effects, etc) and then the ATYPICAL delays (Toho involvement - as mentioned I have a feeling this will be much more prevalent this time around, then any unforeseen things like directors or actors dropping out or being fired after they are already signed on) the only way we'd see a movie by 2012 is if it's complete and utter crap

IF there were to be sequels, i'd imagine a 1.5 year production time being likely, but for the first film, after all the crap that happened last time around, i'd honestly be surprised (and DREADING what the final product would be like)

Just because we haven't heard anything new since this project was announced less than three months ago doesn't mean there hasn't been any progress made on it. They're probably well into the pre-production process as we speak, i.e. writing and revising the script, seeking out a director, designing the look of Godzilla, storyboarding and getting Toho to approve everything. We, the fans, are going to be in the dark on this project for a good long while, but that doesn't mean it isn't moving forward.

And again, I'm willing to put money on this movie getting released in the calendar year 2012. Transformers 3 is being shot right now, which means now is the soonest they could possibly start working on all of the intricate CGI for that flick, as the dailies come in. But they probably won't even begin that post-production work until much later this year, and it's still going to be in theaters next July, just 13 months from now. This isn't the mid-'90s; a CGI-laden action movie doesn't take nearly as long to get done as it used to.

^^^and the effects in the Transformers movies suck balls when taking into account the amount of money they spend...if the effects of a new Godzilla movie looked like Transformers, I'd be pretty disappointed.
