Mill Creek has released Iron King and Super Robot Red Baron

Postby The Shadow » Wed Apr 07, 2010 10:23 pm

I was going through the home video releases over the last few months and was surprised when I spotted two more Mill Creek releases Super Robot Red Baron (released January 19) and Iron King (released March 9).

The sets use the same box art from the previous BCI Eclipse releases, and per usual Mill Creek uses a minimum number of discs (4 for Red Baron and 3 for Iron King.) For comparison's sake, BCI's Red Baron has 6 discs and their Iron King uses 4.

For myself, I prefer tracking down the BCI releases, knowing the quality and work the went into them. But at the bargain prices for the Mill Creek releases ($6.50 each on Amazon) they would make for handy ways to share the fandom via library donations, gift exchanges, and such.

I ordered Red Baron from Amazon yesterday as a matter of fact. I completely agree with you that BCI's sets look beautiful but not being too familiar with Red Baron it looks like I am going the cheap route with Mill Creek's (ugly) set. Thankfully I picked up Ultraman and Iron King right when BCI put them out so two out of three isn't bad.

Man how I miss BCI Eclipse.

I saw Iron King and Red Baron at Walmart for $7.50 each, and know that Target probably has the complete Ultraman series.

I know the BCI releases were packaged better, with booklets and whatnot (I heard the Ultraman rerelease has especially terrible packaging for the discs), but the prices are good.

I definitely want Ultraman on DVD, but am scared about the packaging and general quality. I've never seen Iron King or Red Baron, but have heard good things.

Please talk me into getting these 3 releases...

I stumbled upon both volumes of "Ultraman" in the $5 bin at K-Mart about a month or so ago, which was a very pleasant surprise. I'd gotten BCI's Vol. 2 for Christmas a couple years back, but was never able to get ahold of the first, so I snatched the Mill Creek set. While I was disappointed that the interviews with Peter Fernandez and company weren't included, it was great to get the first half of the series, which I thought I might never find. Fun stuff, though it does get a little too zany at times, even for me.
