Everyone I know hating it, bad reviews across the board, hating everything the director had to say regarding it, hating the new Kentucky Fried Freddy design, and me intensely disliking every one of Platinum Dunes other films (all 7 of them, which I gave a fair chance to each and every one of and gave my own money to) was enough to keep me away from this thing. I gave PD many many chances and was disappointed each time and from what it sounds like, this is the same PD crap that I'm tired of. So of course I won't see it. I'll just wait to rent it from Netflix or something. Platinum Dunes' attitude towards film making and the style in which they do it is not suited to my tastes and last I checked, it was perfectly acceptable to pass on a film based on trailers, clips and reviews. Why keep touching a burnt stove?

But of course that kind of educated guess about a film is TOTALLY unwarranted, right? I mean we all hate everything just to hate it because we're all a bunch of big old meanies.

It gets really irritating to come onto a message board and speak your honest opinion only for someone to complain about it and (more or less) tell you that you're wrong. There's a really bizarre and odd thing I noticed, mainly on the internet. If someone finds themselves in the minority (loving or hating something when the general consensus is the opposite) they automatically make up excuses for the majority (ie "its like people just hate these things to hate them, "they just want to feel important" or on the other end of the spectrum when people made claims like "If Heath Ledger didn't die, nobody would've liked the Dark Knight" or "If anyone besides James Cameron made Avatar, everyone would have hated it")- Its called having an opinion. Just because you disagree with it doesn't mean people are hating something just to hate it. Its called having an opinion. Its great if you like the film, but its insulting to talk to people that way. When you hate a film that everybody else loves, do you say those people are loving it just to love it? But then again if everyone agrees with you on a film, everything is just hunky dory, right?

Well, it ended up being pretty much what I expected–a mediocre remake. Thank God it wasn't much worse. Jackie did pretty good as Freddy, despite the horrible makeup (I got used to it, but I still don't like it). There were plenty of good Freddy-isms to add to his long list (my favorite: "I was only petting him.") I dug the new angle of the character and how they tied him to all the Elm Street kids. That was really neat. Oh, and the film is pretty, my favorite imagery probably being the snowy bedroom.

But, the big problem with the film is that it's just boring. I was never scared. I don't think they revealed too much of Freddy off the bat (not much more than in the original), but I just didn't feel any of the tension.
I was on the edge of my seat during the final dream confrontation, but after they

[SPOILER]
brought him out of the dream like in the original, I was let down. A quick scuffle and then Freddy was defeated. I wanted him to chase them all over the preschool.
[END SPOILER]

The switching of main characters seems to play off of the original, but for the worse. I liked Nancy, though. And I didn't mind Quentin, either, even though everybody else seems to hate him. Actually, the teens that I didn't like got killed off fairly quickly (I absolutely hated the first victim. What a horrible actor, I'm glad he bit it first. Juicy death, too. :) )

Let's see, what else? Oh yah, pretty much every "homage" to the original was done better in the original. The worst was Freddy coming out of the wall. The '84 version used an ingenious practical effect that ended up being super creepy. The remake uses a typical CGI shot that goes over the top by having Freddy come nearly all the way out of the wall, snake over to the actress's side and reveal his claws. Stupid! The "wet dream" hallway was neat, though (great line, too), and the levitating scene was still intense.

The friend I saw it with was way more satisfied than I was, calling this a "worthy remake." I think he's being way too forgiving. The movie had a few things going for it, but it's just simply dull and by-the-numbers. Unfortunately, most mainstream moviegoers will eat it up. There were lots of screams during the cheap jump scares, and at the end of the movie there were some stupid girls going, "oh, I'm never going to sleep," blah blah. Ugh.

I've always been more of a fan of the zombie Jason. All those emotions he showed and the god damn tunnels to explain how he gets around so fast drove me crazy in the new one.

Also back to the child molester thing... Its not that I hate the angle its the fact they never say hes a child killer. He has no history of killing any of the kids hence why they are all still alive. That is what made him less of a monster to me. Its always been hinted at hes a molester.
