I always hated Oprah, so I wasn't very excited about this.

And I'm still not. Her narration is awful. She talks like the audience is pre-schoolers. The photography is brilliant though, as always with these shows.

I can't imagine what their motivation for using her was. To get a different audience involved? Just a terrible idea.

The photography is great though. The segment with the sarcastic Fringehead fish last night was awesome.

They used Oprah, because despite what a bunch of message board Godzilla nerds may think :D she happens to be an intelligent and highly respected public figure. Yes, I am one of those nerds too, and found it unusual, but I certainly don't hate it.

The photography is AMAZING, and that's the important thing. Not to mention all the scenes never before filmed. I've only seen the first two episodes so far...forgot to set the recorder last week...but I love what I've seen. Nature is wonderful.

IDK, I have felt that there really wasn't much that I haven't seen beore in this series. It seemed like Planet Earth was nothing but things I have never seen (seriously, a crab living in a bromeliad in the Amazon??!!) but this doesn't seem like it has anything new. There was the whale "heat run" (I think that is what it was called) but it didn't seem like it was anything different from what I have seen with whales before. Plus, they couldn't film the whole thing because the whales dove too deep.

All this series really seems to me is a bunch of pretty shots. It is like the nature documentary version of the new Transformers movies. All flash and no substance...
