2000's The Cell one of those movies where I'm a bit stunned it took me this long to finally see it...I liked it a lot

EDIT: After chewing on this a bit from last night until now I do have a couple of complaints...and I mean literally, I have TWO complaints - unfortunately, they cause the movie to kind of fall apart from a critical standpoint...

SPOILER ALERTS!
I just didn't get how NOBODY at the FBI thought to research the manufacturer of the strange appliances in the killer's house...I mean, they are tracking down aquamarine colored Fords and dog-hairs on dead chicks but they don't look into a niche-manufacturer until one of the cops goes into the killer's mind??? That's a bit hard to swallow. This could have been handled better.

Then, I also don't get how J-Lo has ANY hope of saving Edward from Mocky-Lock when the only way she could save the killer from his evil side was to kill him...yet the movie plays it off like Edward's gonna be JUST FINE...bullspit

Like I said, these are the only 2 complaints I had about it and I liked the movie a lot, but from a PLOT standpoint they really crush the movie

i'm in the middle of watching 2012 right now...it's so bad i want to punch myself in the face...the fact that roland emmerich is consistently allowed to make movies actually infuriates me

he's 100 times effing worse than bay

finished watching it: emmerich sucks - i unfortunately see he's actually doing another film slated for release in 2011...the guy needs to be STOPPED...

"The Bad Sleep Well" and "High and Low". Toshiro Mifune is a badass even in a suit and hornrimmed glasses.

Wanted to watch more of the Kurosawa-thon, but if I'm going to work in a restaurant/bar on St. Pat's, I'm gonna need my beauty sleep.

The Idiot

Kurosawa adpatation of Dostoyevsky's famous novel, and IMO it doesn't really work. It didn't help that Kurosawa had to cut an hour out and then the studio cut out another 15 minutes without his permission, giving the film a disjointed feel at times.

But even with those extra scenes I'm not sure it would work. In Kurosawa's other literary adaptations he wasn't afraid to change a lot of little things to make the story work better in the medium of film, wheras in this he seems a bit too reverent to the source, leading to stuff that would work better on the page - on film not so much.
