The scarves are awesome. :P

And anyway, the way the Japanese guys in these films are are just according to what the current trends in Japan are. It's on the other side of the globe, obviously there will be differences in views and cultures.

And to say that those hairstyles are outlandish even for Japan isn't totally true from what I saw... I mean, I even saw a guy who was a dead ringer for Mirai Hibino - hair and all - in Hiroshima!

Not to mention watching some of the interviews these guys do... it's like they've toned themselves down for whatever show they're in!

The scarves need to go? In a Kamen Rider movie?
Yeah, they also should get rid of those helmets with the bug eyes. :)

KiryuGoji,
But those are ACTORS, not actual people. I lived in Tokyo for four years, and I go there every year for vacation (although I haven't been for the last two, but will be going again in March/April). I am also in the rock scene, and go to shows when I am in Japan. The average young person on the street does not look like the characters in the current Rider series. Actors and musicians can afford to look like... freaks. But, the styles of these characters in the Rider movies and television series are a bit over the top. Even for Japan.

Now, here are some folks that look like they are characters in a Heisei Rider show, a bunch of crazy bands from Japan played tonight at the DNA Lounge:

http://www.dnalounge.com/flyers/2007/12 ... inism.html

I was at this show tonight -- one of the several stops I made on my B-Day Nightclub Tour 2007! While we're at it, here's one of the other stops we ended up at, Chez Bodonkadunk put on my a friend of mine, which is held once a month at the Cat Club. We had a LOT of laughs -- I CAN'T even tell you more here.

If anyone ever comes to San Francisco, who is over 21, I know how to have a good time on the town! R-A-W-K  The next show I am going to is http://www.livenation.com/event/getEvent/eventId/296453

Drunk. Tired. Must sleep. Goodnight. :D

Heehee, fair enough. Mirai's doppleganger was still hilarious, however, and he wasn't the only one like that I saw.

So, has anyone else seen this yet?

I thought it was a pretty mixed bag. I like J-Horror, but the idol thing is like a completely different movie. It cuts in and out pretty badly, and makes no real sense half the time. The script in general is kind of nonsensical. It's like they ripped elements from the JU-ON films and various other J-Horrors, while the Shocker/Rider stuff took the back seat and came across as an awkward subplot.

And what's with the nude scene? I guess it makes the movie appear more "adult".

The action is good, and I think a step up from THE FIRST. The film also has one of the coolest bike action scenes I've seen in forever (which, unlike the rest of the movie, is edited really well). Do they even ride bikes anymore in the current TV shows? I thought the soundtrack was also quite good.

It would be nice to see the FIRST/NEXT setting as a TV series with some decent screenplays (lol?) and more time with the main characters (who, to be honest, don't really have much to do in the movie). I would probably actually watch it, unlike the last couple of shows, which aside from namesake I don't know how they are remotely related to the franchise. But whatever.

I guess a fun film all in all, but I'm not really sure what kind of film they wanted to make here, and on a greater scale, I'm not sure if anyone actually knows how to handle Kamen Rider in general anymore.

Interested to hear what other people thought of THE NEXT.

I've been meaning to post my thoughts about this since I saw it just over a week ago but you beat me to it! Really I agree with pretty much all that you said. It was a fun movie with fantastic action scenes and a very "wtf were they thinking" plot. It's not a terrible plot by any means, the jhorror story, but it just doesn't fit in the movie. Feels forced. There is some good tension built in some scenes but again. Wtf?

Oh well, hopefully the third one is better if they decide to make one. If it still manages to be as fun as The First and The Next then I'll be satisfied but it'd be nice to have a decent script for once.

And yes, they still have bikes in the series. Do they use them? Not much. There was a great bike fight in Kiva a couple weeks back but that was actually the last we've seen of the bikes since then! >>

I got to see this a while back, and I hate t be an echo, but I agree with you guys - this movie's a mixed bag.

I'll be honest - I went into this one expecting something new and different. Based on "The First", I immediately knew the fight scenes would be good, but not great, the special effects would be so-so, and the story would act like an old car - it starts up nice, but as soon as it gets good, it sputters and slows and takes a while to get back up to speed. "The First", however, did a good job introducing KR1 and 2, and providing a decent backstory for them....even if it was filled with pretty random and out of place story elements(the two kids, and their eventual shocker turn was defintely a "WTF?!?!" in my book.)

The Next suffers from pretty much the same as The First, and feels like the screenwriters got confused while they were writing it. I agree, this was based on a J-Horror premise, but in the end, it just feels wrong. While I'd LOVE the idea of a Kamen Rider fighting some supernatural being and being so badass that their rider kick can destroy an undead(Yep, I'm a Kiva and Agito fan :P), the plot didn't help. You mean to tell me a mutated person can go ghost and kill people at random? J-Horror always establishes that the being in question is either dead, cursed, or was summoned.....If she can do it, why can't any other Shocker agent? Why can't V3? He's just like her, right? why doesn't he have supernatural powers?

And Shocker...while I was floored by the fact that the Shocker Riders were in it, they didn't get much good fights in....what I mean is, if they're as good as they make you think, why don't they do more? As a matter of fact, why can't TOEI afford a better stunt team? the fights looked lazy to me, though there's hope for the future, since Kiva has some pretty awesome fight scenes(some of which feel like they were lifted from the movie and enhanced, mainly the chase scenes and the fight atop the mack truck.)

Fun movie? yes. The best? maybe, if it wasn't for the tacked-on Ju-On storyline.

Yeah I really disliked this the first time I watched it, but the second time around I found it to be pretty awesome. You guys are correct though:

This is a confused, mixed bag of two seperate genres and it's difficult to imagine how the writers thought this would work out 100%. I will say that the Rider stuff was FANTASTIC, better than the fights in THE FIRST and Scissors Jaguar and Chainsaw Lizard were really cool (So were Chainsaw Lizards little Boobies !! ) and the Shocker Riders were O.K. but it feels at the end of it just another missed opportunity to do an Ultimate Kamen Rider movie because the writers are so dumb. I really think that J-Horror is pretty much worn out as far as the Ju-On or Ringu films and their rip-offs are concerned even over in Japan so it's an odd choice to throw that kind of story in this movie at all. But still I would say it's better than THE FIRST and I'm hoping for another one for sure.

I'm glad to see people saying that they liked this film. In no way is it a perfect KR movie, but when it gets going it's really awesome to behold.

RUMOUR MILL : - A Final film is being talked about with V3, Riderman, and KR Amazon destroying Shocker. How cool would this be if they don't mix it with any other genre??!! Here's hoping man!

good

i finally saw this, and liked it pretty well. there certainly needed to be more action in it, but i didn't mind the idol/horror thing too much. the whiny student needed to go, at least she changed by the end.

i still think the actors playing Ichigo and Nigo should have changed roles. Kazami was OK.

the final battle was great, but we needed more than that throughout the movie. still, it blows away any "Rider" show on the telly. gotta love henchmen being wasted and a kaijin or two.

hopefully, if they make a third one, they concentrate on the heroes and not the useless secondary characters. and have more fights.

did they ever once call each other Kamen Riders? or V3? i hate that, too. it's like not using the name Tarzan or Batman in a Tarzan or Batman movie. weak!

Glad you watched this and thought it was alright Dave. Your opinion counts with this stuff. Again, I have to point out some of the AWESOME fight sequences that this movie did. Towards the end it's just total asskicking left and right, no mercy and great Martial arts. Yes. Blows away anything on T.V. and here's looking forward to another film.

UPDATE: - It's actually KR X, Riderman, and KR Amazon that are being talked about now. Is this moving forward??

^^^^
You mean "Kamen Rider the Third" and "Kamen Rider: The Fall of Shocker" - They'll be filmed back-to-back next Spring, according to reports. This is what's known so far:

- V3 takes over as lead for the next movies. Kamen Rider 1 and 2 will have smaller roles this time around.
- Riderman and Rider X debut - Amazon is supposed to be a "surprise" and sets up the plot for TFOS.
- Riderman will be the villain for "The 3rd". Halfway through, he joins V3 and X, leading to TFOS
- All main actors from the first two return for "The Third", as most of them signed 3-movie contracts with a possible fourth if necessary.
- A new stunt company was hired for the stunts in both movies. Its name hasn't been disclosed to the media yet.
- Monsters will be selected from the Kamen Rider X series and modified
- The ending will be a cliffhanger, matrix-style(possibly a "To be Continued" at the credits, in homage to the old series)

I just watched the first one and part of the second one and I can safely say that I am not a fan....

I like the idea general idea of everything but the power ranger vibe kills it for me (namely the henchmen...I do love the looke of the Kamen Riders and the Shocker baddies tho)and the melodrama is perhaps the cheeziest and worst written/ filmed romantic sub-plot I have seen since Star Wars Episode 2

So I left this movie thinking that this remake/ reboot is ripe for another remake/ reboot...there are some awesome designs in the series and some really cool directions they could go but thus far I'm simply not impressed...

FYI I've never seen anything Masked Rider related before so this was my first dip in the water into the series...I also bought Hakaider which I'll probably watch tomorrow sometime...hopefully I like that more
