Ok so the batteries are fresh and I have taken Mr. Gigan out of his temporary house. The box is square and volumetric-wise it looks a bit smaller than anguirus' box (i was too lazy to compare). My first immediate impression is that the detailing is great, but Gigan seems a bit....small.

I'll let others make the effort to compare him with other Gigans. But here are my own comparisons

Size of x-plus gigan vs. bandai creation's gigan

Image

some pics with anguirus

Image

Image

Image

This I thought was an interesting pic. This is X-Plus' Ghidorah 64 statue next to Gigan. Ghidorah is standing on a base which gives him about a 3/4" raise off the flat surface. This is to give an idea of how much larger a hypothetical X-plus 30cm scale vinyl Ghidorah would have to be than the statue, which stands about 16" tall from feet to top of wings.

Image

Now here is why I think Gigan is a bit underscaled/small. I felt that he was a bit small relative to anguirus, at least going by some Godzilla vs. Gigan stills i looked up on the internet (unless the 72 anguirus significantly shrunk in size relative to his 68 incarnation...i dont recall). To compare for myself I took a Paradise Godzilla 1964 30cm scale model kit I have and compared it to the Gigan. Now Gigan is supposed to by slightly taller than any showa Godzilla. Not so here:

Image

Now I dont know if Gigan was originally some other sculpt like the previous x-plus' have been (monster maker 28) but it appears to be a bit underscaled compared to what a true 30cm figure is supposed to be. What appears to have happened is that the figure (Gigan) is in the 30cm scale in the sense that the top of his horn is at the 30cm mark (see how it is dead even with the top of Godzilla's head), but he is not in the actual 30 cm scale. Meaning, his absolute height is 30cm; he does not stand at his correct height relative to a standard (i.e., Godzilla) 30 cm figure. This is a bit disappointing to me.

Additionally, the vinyl is a bit softer than Anguirus'. It took a longer time for me to assemble Gigan because there is no flat surface on his body to rest him against as you struggle to fit the parts in (yes, even after using heat), so you have to take care not to bend any horns/mandibles/fins/claws/etc.

The mandibles are somewhat susceptible to being bent out of position. Mine were slightly bent out of position.

All in all, still a beautiful figure.

A couple of new things. First, a Marusan Gorosaurus. It was released in 2005 as a "Princess Street Exclusive." Supposedly there was less than 100 of them made.

Next, I bought a Bandai Ghidorah (1991) to replace the one I had since it's tag was ripped. well, when I got it, I saw that the 2 were just a little different and remembered reading in the gallery herethat Bandai did 2 versions. Well, it was the dull horn version and I already had the long horn version. So, now I just need to find a replacement for my long horn version again.

Lastly, I got a poster from the recent Toho Heisei film festival. It is an awesome poster!

I've got that poster too.

It makes the Heisei series look so much cooler than it actually was.

That is an excellent poster!

Question for anyone...regarding the X-Plus Godzilla 1968, is it safe to say this is an end of the year release?

it was $25+shipping a few hours ago... Now they upped the price to $30+ shipping... $40 for a poster is kinda pushing it.... I hope I can find someone in Japan to help me pick up this poster.... Does anyone know more info about the festival? Is it still on going or is it over?

Anyways, I got the X-Plus Gorosaurus last week and it's awesome! Can't wait to see my Gigan when it comes in.

New Trendmasters figures and prototypes along with the new "First Godzilla" and MechaG from Bandai Creation.

6" Animated Godzilla Prototype

Unreleased Doom Island Resin Spacegodzilla and Mechagodzilla. These were to be special editions and in the same scale a the Dino sets. I'm unclear as to the intended release. It seems both were considered for Dino sets, but the special editions were to be individual figures, at least Space G. The non-Dino version was to have glowing eyes and mouth and sound.
That's an armored Kumonga prototype next to them. Unfortunately, I'm missing the "missile" for the mouth.

6" MegaMutation Destroyah in front of Godzilla bank and Living Godzilla protos.

Supreme G final and proto, Living G proto, and the Godzilla Wars 40th Anniversary repaint set... finally!

Bandai Creation figures. I actually really like the MechaG.

Animated Yeti prototype. Sadly, I'm missing all the arm weapons and the skin suit. That's another C-Rex behind.

Very happy to finally nab this figure. The unreleased "Twisted" Godzilla for the Doom Island line. This is a sort of early sculpt. It's a painted resin, so it also has issues staying together. I'll hold him together the same way as the others: with wall tacky. Not nearly as impressive as the one in the catalog, but still a very cool figure.

Unpainted 6" Animated G along with a smaller, 4" animated G. This one has a spring loaded arm and a solid set of spines, rather than a trigger like the 6" figure.

Been a good while since posting, but I'm gonna try getting back into this and ...

Loving that "Twisted" G Hesei!!

New stuff is in!!

A Carlin Playthings 5" bendable G from '83 I think. I am not too happy with the condition of it but, it was only a few bucks so no biggie. He is pretty cool though!

Image

A new Marmit from G vs. Smog Monster holding Hedorah's uhhhhh, things. Eggs, I guess. It is the Comic Con Exclusive from 2001:

Image

The rest of this stuff came from my brother. He is cleaning/packing up his collection and wanted to get rid of alot of it so these are a few of the things I snagged from him. I still have a whole nother box to go through!

10" motion activated Ghidorah:

10" motion activated MKG:

Yeah, he's something else! Gotta find that putty to keep him together, now.

I love that last Yutaka set you snagged there. About how large is the big G in the middle? And I can see that first SD set is the same boot I got, but it is still pretty neat, as you said. And is the walking Destroyah all right? A little strange on the left foot.

I forgot about the Carlin Godzilla's expression, ha!

The Godzilla in the middle of the Yutaka set is about 5". I like that set too. As far as Destoroyah's foot, it just stayed like that after I turned him off, I am sure if I turned him back on, it would be fine.

Got the X-Plus Gigan today. I'll posts a bunch of pics (though we've all seen leunames photos already) and then I'll post my thoughts.

This is one hell of an impressive figure with a great paintjob, lots of terrific detail that mimic the suit very well and a fantastic translucent visor. But do I prefer it to the Marmit? Nah. The proportions on the X-Plus seem a bit off. It's too tall and the head and arms are a bit too small. I'm also not a huge fan of the "leaning back on his tail" pose. The Marmit had a few flaws (the duller paint job, the seam around the neck) but I think it's an all around better representation of Gigan. Don't get me wrong, the X-Plus figure is amazing, but I definitely like the Marmit more. That said, the X-Plus Angilas is leagues ahead of the Marmit.
