That is good for you, as the extras once again cannot be accessed on the Samsung 3600. I have no dea why not, and why the firmware update a few weeks ago has not fixed this issue, but this player is really starting to get on my nerves. It won't play the extras on these discs, the player cannot play Up and Monster's Inc without constantly freezing, and some movies won't even load at all on it.

BTW, did your Biollante copy come with a slip case? I'm trying to figure out if the slipcases are only for the first editions or if they are something that will be with the discs permenantly.

Godzilla 1984 Review:

Video - 4/5:

The video quality is very nice, with the picture looking quite crisp for most of the scenes feature Godzilla, while some of the grainy scenes seemed to be really vibrant with grain. While the movie was filmed with grain, I do not remember it being that noticeable on the Region 2 DVD disc, but then, I have not watched this movie in about five years, so my memory of the ones video may be rusty. Still, the video was excellent and there were some more details in the background I had never noticed before (such as the Ghostbusters symbol).

Audio - 5/5:

Once again the audio is just simply incredible. Since I ended up watching it late at night, I had my receiver cranked down a lot lower than I would have preferred, but to my surprise, I could hardly tell a difference. The dialog was clear and never got drowned out by the sound effects, which were also incredible themselves. The rear speakers seemed to have gotten a great amount of use out of this movie, which I was pleasantly surprised with. If there is anything to complain audio wise, it deals more with the movie itself, as the score to this movie is quite bland, especially the scenes with Godzilla.

Extras - NA:

I have not had the chance to check out the extras yet, but they are the same as the Region 2 DVD.

Overall:

While Godzilla 1984 is not the greatest Godzilla movie ever made, it seems to get better with each repeated viewing. Due to the fact that this movie has never made its way to DVD at all in the US in any format, this Blu-Ray should be a no brainer to any Godzilla fan, as it is the one that started the Heisei series and it leads directly into Godzilla vs Biollante. If you have the money, definitely pick this movie up, as the Blu-Ray will not disappoint.

Godzilla statue in Hibiya Park, Tokyo:
http://www.jref.com/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/2976

It's clearly indicated on Toho Video's BD entries, which extras are new and which are the same as the early DVDs. So, no surprises there.

Mistystuffer asked: "Just what exactly they are. Behind the scenes photos, videos? A lot of just people talking? How long are they? I really have no idea about these but I'm curious. I'd like to know if these have any significant interest to non-Japanese-speaking fans."

By the retitling, these could be very different from the originals that Baradagi and I are talking about. As for the originals, they are 10-15 minute digests of the films (two or three on each volume), edited by Honda and narrated. They show movie posters and at the end of each segment, there are some production photos shown (for SON OF GODZILLA, they show a still of the Godzilla and Minilla maquettes).

Looking forward to seeing if these are indeed all-new productions or not.
