I saw Killer Klowns from Outer Space recently, and it was funny. I hate clowns, but this was fun to watch, in a way creepy though.

Also saw Return of the Living Dead: Necropolis, while it wasn't the best, it was still fun to watch. I wanted to catch Return of the Living Dead on AMC TV today, but I had classes during the same time, so I had to miss it. Hopefully there will be a re-run! I believe on Halloween night, AMC TV is gonna be showing Night of the Living Dead, which I most certainly will not be missing!

Man, do I love zombie movies! :D

Knowing - ugh...i never planned on seeing this, and then somebody i know that typically hates anything in the scifi/horror realm said it wasnt that bad, so here I was expecting something nowhere near as ludicrous as the plot of this movie is...it's hard to give much of a review without spoiling it, and since it's not THAT old a film, i wont bother...other than to say the last half hour is one of the lesser half hours of cinema i've seen...and the ultimate "oh so that's what it was all building towards" REALLY just comes out of NOWHERE...

Blair Witch Project - STILL don't care what anybody says, this movie is scary. the problem is that people who go camping and are woodsy realize the obvious "just follow the STREAM you IDIOTS" and people who DONT go camping and would never think to do that themselves literally think that it is impossible to get lost in the woods (just like the people in the movie...) so it kind of misses with people because those who dont camp cant empathize with how scary the woods are and how absolutely TERRIFYING it is to be lost and those who do go camping get furious at the walking in circles stuff...
still, if you let yourself empathize with the characters it is a REALLY scary movie...the unknown is always MUCH scarier to me...never seeing what antagonizes them is, imho a really good move. if we HAD seen a hermit, or woman covered in horse's hair, or disembodied figure, i REALLY think it would ultimately have not been scary at all
also, for the 'just follow the stream' people. i personally like to think this is TRULY a witch that's haunting them and even if they HAD followed the stream, they would have managed (through black magic of course) to never get anywhere...

I haven't watched or talked about BWP in oh 8 years or so. But from what I remember the whole idea about being lost was that they weren't walking in circles, they were always being lead back to the same spot no matter where they walked.

Before BWP came out I was pretty excited about it and bought a lot of the stuff that helped build the mythos, such as the comics, and reading the histories on the website etc.

To me, that showed that knowledge really is power. Going into the movie knowing the "local legends" made a lot of the little nuances a hell of a lot more scary. It really is the difference between watching without foreknowledge and thinking oh what the f.... and watching with foreknowledge and thinking holy sh....!

In order to get my Halloween on (and since Halloween TV, on a whole, sucks these days) I've been watching some old creepy films.

Mystery Science Theater 3000: Samson vs. The Vampire WomenThe perfect Halloween episode of this show. Cheesy Mexican vampire movie and all.

The Night Stalker
'70s TV movie that introduces us to the super-cool reporter Carl Kolchak (Darren McGavin) who thinks that the killer the city is after is a vampire.

Pumpkinhead: Blood Reign

Wasn't the best, it was on SyFy. I love Pumpkinhead though, but I haven't seen the first film in years, hope it would come on TV sometime.

Watched on Youtube:

Frankenstein

13 minute long silent film from 1910 is actually a bit closer to Mary Shelly's story than the Universal film, aside from a strange, psychoanalytical sort of ending.

Nosferatu

Silent adaptation of Dracula with some wonderfully composed imagery and a creepy as heck vampire. Also it has the best film version of the Mina character: she's the hero.

I agree on TCM showing good movies, they haven't let me down yet, so I'm good! I caught NOSFERATU and man was it awesome. AMC's "FearFest" sucks! This year they got some what better, but I haven't been too impressed at the moment. They were good in 1998-1999, now its nothing but a load of farts! Syfy has not shown anything that I cared for other than Pumpkinhead. I haven't seen anything else.

So far, I think TCM is in the lead!

Got and watched Night of the Creeps on Tuesday. The last time I saw that movie was back in middle school (circa 15 years ago), and I remembered it as being hardcore crap-your-pants scary. The axe-wielding zombie and the brain worms were about all I remembered clearly, bit I'd have sworn that it was actually a straight horror movie.

It is not.

It's pretty freakin' funny though. I enjoyed it thoroughly, but it certainly wasn't the movie I thought it was.

Swamp Thing

One of the greatest comic book characters made into a movie about as compelling as a clump of dirt.
