"Dejah Thoris will be played by ex-porn star and genre scream queen Traci Lords "

Oh this is just silly.

Don't get me wrong. I adore Traci Lords. Cry-Baby is one of my favorite films, and she was just about the only thing that was entertaining in Zack and Miri Make a Porno. I even sat through most of that awful show First Wave because she was in it. She's smart, funny and absolutely adorable.

But she's not Dejah Thoris. To be fair, I don't think much of Lynn Collins as Dejah either. I just wish these filmmakers would all keep their hands off of "properties" like John Carter and Solomon Kane.

Megan Fox.

Just kidding. Too young anyway.

I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder, or the mind's eye, or both. Like I said, I'd prefer these not end up on screen because anything that does is going to be compromised.

But I guess I picture someone darker, more exotic. A young Monica Belluci type...

Her face was oval and beautiful in the extreme, her every feature was finely chiseled and exquisite, her eyes large and lustrous and her head surmounted by a mass of coal black, waving hair, caught loosely into a strange yet becoming coiffure. Her skin was of a light reddish copper color, against which the crimson glow of her cheeks and the ruby of her beautifully molded lips shone with a strangely enhancing effect.

Ah, I've got it: Morena Baccarin from Firefly and upcoming in the V remake.

I'm admittedly spoiled by decades of Frazetta paintings, which are no more or less valid than Traci's look. I don't recall seeing her with black hair, but I did like her as a redhead.

But the color of her hair and her presence in this movie will, I'm sure, be the least of its problems.

"The classic story that inspired James Cameron's AVATAR"????

Oh, so is it based on Poul Anderson's "Call Me Joe" or Peter F. Hamilton's "Fallen Dragon"?

Man, these guys have no shame.
