Hollywood on the whole just doesn't get Godzilla. But what still confuses me is how some high profile directors can be Godzilla fans (Spielberg, Scorsesee, Burton) but yet the industry as a whole just doesn't get it.

^^^Sorry man, I feel like you're comparing apples to oranges and getting mangoes mixed into the bunch. Transformers, fandom or franchise-wise, and Godzilla are not equal aspects to one another and it would be a fallacy to assume you can glean any patterns or correlations to either beyond a shallow comparison.

Seriously.

From there, it's difficult to assimilate the rest of your points into anything coherent. No offense, but the rest sounds kinda sophistic. You can't just pop in big Hollywood names to give weight to your point, whether it's Cameron, Ratner or frickin' Batman.

And ultimately you fail to acknowledge the ticket buyers onto which this whole business depends. If the general population was ready, the production would be more likely to be made. This is determined from the trends that have been described in pretty good detail from KPA and a few others. Because of the low returns involved, things are the way they are.

The simplest solution is always nearly THE solution. Conjuring supposed compliments and golden approval from Spielberg is a pipedream and, ergo, little compared to the reality of a stubborn stigma on a soured public.

Sure lots of big names in Hollywood like Godzilla. But how in the world does that automatically mean that making another Hollywood Godzilla film is anything near a good idea?

So they like Godzilla. It doesn't mean they should be making a Godzilla movie. Nor does it mean a Godzilla movie made by them would somehow completely erase the stigma of GINO and 50+ years of Godzilla being a gigantic joke and end up being some huge, colossal hit.

And the Godzilla fandom is tiny. Ever been to a Star Wars convention? You could take everyone attending even the fullest G-Fest and the line to simply pick up show exclusive merchandise at a Star Wars con would most likely be double or triple that figure. And that's just one example.

Honestly, I would love a new Godzilla movie, and forever will expect a new one in the horizon. However, the way things are currently, I'm not entirely sure if Toho wishes to bring the Big-G back. Maybe one day, sure, and hey if Toho does keep their promise, maybe we will see a film in 2013. But that's a good three years from now, so only time will tell.
