I saw it last night. I really liked the first one (& still do) but this one was pretty awful. I loved the fight in the woods. That was really well done, exciting, & i actually cared about the characters involved & what happened to them. But that was pretty much the ONLY sequence in the entire 2 1/2 hrs that i can say that about. I hated the "twins". They were almost as annoying as Jar Jar Binks.

Overall, this just felt like a longer, less engaging rehash of what we saw in the first film with a much less interesting story driving the action. In a good sequel I generally expect to see the characters taken in a new direction or at least further developed. I also expect to see something new & creative, not just the same ol' same ol'. I mean, going back to the desert again? I dunno, it just felt so phoned in. Kinda like having to blow up the death star in Return of the Jedi. Sure it was bigger & fancier, but WE'VE ALREADY SEEN THAT. Show us something NEW. That's part of why i liked the fight in the forest. It was something fresh.

But I think the final nail in the coffin was the length of the film. I'm not one to complain about long films when they put that length to good use (Seven Samurai & Lawrence of Arabia come to mind) but it just killed this movie. So many of the scenes (especially the human scenes) felt like pointless filler. A good editor could have a field day here & i think the film would actually turn out much better. If you cut out most of the college stuff, the entire "cheating girl" sequence, the majority of the twins & probably a few other things here & there it would actually be a pretty decent sequel. This kind of movie should be fast paced & action packed leaving you wanting more. As it stands, it's long, plodding, & beats you into submission so hard that by the time it's finally over you're thankful.

& about the cheating girl.... WHAT THE CRAP!!! If they can take human form, then WHY don't ALL the decepticons do that?? I thought the whole reason that they all took vehicular forms was because they were inorgamic beings & were not capable of taking organic forms, thus they take the form of our machines to blend in..... GAH did the writers even bother to think any of this through?? probably not. I expected illogical things that wouldn't make sense if you stopped to think about them just like the first film, but this was SO GLARINGLY asinine that it totally through me right out of the movie.

The film suffers from horrible continuity errors. The individual Constructicons that combine into Devastator appear individually separate from him, while Devastator is still combined elsewhere. Ugh, it seems even the director couldn't keep track of who was who.

Four parts of the film that could have been cut to make it shorter/better:

1. Transforming kitchen appliances? No thanks! Cut out that whole sequence for a quicker start.

2. Cut out Mudflap and Skids as they contributed nothing to the film and just pissed off a lot of people. What a waste, they took up hard drive space, talented animators time, and who knows how long it took to render them.

Give me more Autobot interaction between Ironhide, Ratchet, Bumblebee, Sideswipe, Arcee, Chromia, or Jolt. With so many new Autobot characters it baffles me those twins were given so much screen time.

3. What did that roommate of Sam's add to the film? Why would anyone put a character in a movie whose sole purpose is to annoy everyone in the film and in the audience is beyond me.

4. Transforming sexy blond temptress? I came here to watch Transformers not Terminator 3. I understand it's a throwback to the Pretenders in G1 Transformers, but that doesn't mean it had to be included in an already jam-packed film. More screen time eaten up which might have been devoted to more interesting things (like a coherent story).

Of course there could've been plenty of other cuts to make the film shorter and better, but these were the major problematic parts that come to mind.

Spoilers...

The whole Constructicon thing WAS a bit confusing...but I believe we're just supposed to accept that there were TWO sets. The huge one in the beginning was clearly destroyed, yet turned up again (along with other doubles) later in the movie. It would have been nice if they had addressed this, but that's how it seemed to be. Sort of like how there are numerous jet Decepticons in G1...or how there were many Sweeps in the animated movie.

I didn't like how so many of the new Autobots got the short end of the stick, while the Twins were featured so much. I would LOVED to have seen the Arcee bikes a lot more, not to mention the awesome Sideswipe from the beginning of the movie. Dang he was smooth! Not to mention the Autobot character Jolt...he only had a few brief scenes and then played a big role in the finale...weird.

Ravage was AWESOME...but what was even more awesome was his death scene! Holy Sh*t Bumblebee can kick arse!

Anz, you did notice that there were multiple construction vehicles, and that only SIX of them combined into Devastator right? If you look at the toys, there is Demolisher, who was the bot from Shanghai, and then there is Scavenger, who is the bot that combined into Devastator.

And talking about continuity in a Transformers discussion is nulled. Have you not noticed the continuity issues in EVERY TF series? Let's go back to G1. Megatron built the constructicons on Earth. No, wait, he reprogrammed them on Cybertron, forcing them to betray their friend Omega Supreme. Hold on, that still isn't right. The Constructicons built Megatron because the Decepticons needed a leader.

And the kitchen appliances scene was fantastic. OH, and the movie needed to be longer, NOT shorter. LIke 3 hours, as I paid $15 for tickets and only got 2.5 hours.

Everything they said was pretty self explanatory, except maybe the movie comparison part -- mainly because I've never seen most of them.
