Some good news, apparently Walmart is gonna be dropping the price of their Magnavox player to $128 all next week. I believe it's the same player I have, and bought for $129 on Black Friday, and it's a pretty good one.

I don't get the hard-fought backlash towards blu-ray myself...

nobody is in any way forcing or even attempting to force anyone to go to blu-ray any time soon (has there been a movie, tv show, etc YET that has been 100% exclusive to blu-ray and not released on DVD?)

while the difference may be miniscule, there still IS a difference and it undeniable...

HOWEVER, that does not mean i will be replacing (or feel the need to replace) my entire DVD collection with blu-rays...i feel like people who do that could EASILY spend their money on other things. I personally only own a small amount of blu-rays (dark knight, hellboy 2 [which i havent even watched yet], million dollar baby, the ruins and stepbrothers)...i dont think there's really anything else on my immediate list, in fact, i still buy dvds of movies that i dont feel are worth it on blu ray (the only reason i bought stepbrothers was because it was $10 at circuit city while they were going outta business)...but i just recently bought a lot of DVDs...

why cant we just live and let live and all get along and such and the like?

or, as an alternative, you can all be jealous of my ability to not care

yeah, i don't think many people (myself included) will be inclined to replace their dvd collections any time soon. However, i only buy dvds now if there's no bluray available & it's apparent there won't be one for some time.

& while i won't replace my whole collection, i will replace select titles... & if toho puts their meticulously restored prints on bluray, you can bet i'll be replacing my godzilla movies as finances permit. I mean, the increased resolution is good, but combine that with the full restoration & you've got a drastically superior copy of the film.

EDIT: here's a good example of a dvd that we (well, my wife) replaced with bluray. The comparison screenshots in the review say more than I could...

I personally didn't enjoy the Blu-Ray as much. I hope it doesn't flaw up this because when I was at Best Buy they were showing the opera scene from The Fifth Element and I personally had a hard time watching it. It just looked awkward to me, but that's probably just me.
