Thanks Cookson, I was afraid that was going to be the answer.

I myself have not tried it but baking soda is generally used to neutralize odors and smoke. Here is just one reference from the web:

How To Remove Cigarette Odor
Baking soda - one of the tried-and-true methods of odor removal. Whether cleaning your carpet, smelly used couch or dingy car seats, baking soda is your friend. Sprinkle it over the smoke-infused area and let it sit for a few hours. Then whip out your trusty vacuum cleaner to suck up the soda, finishing the job.

One word of advice: before sprinkling at will, test the baking soda out on a concealed part of the surface to make sure the surface or fabric doesn't interact unfavorably with the baking soda.

With time, the smell will tend to dissipate anyway.

I personally don't find it to be a big deal, that is unless you like to smell your figures often...

I'm not too worried about getting the baking soda trapped in the joints or anything since I have them totally broken down. I will test out some Febreeze inside the tail I guess, just to check it out.

I use warm soapy water to clean mine too. I also use a soft bristle toothbrush to get into all the cracks. I always take them apart first and let them dry for a day or two before putting them back together.
