Is anyone else severely disappointed in Wrestlemania this year? Its the 25th WM, and frankly the only matches I care about at all are the Jericho vs. Legends match and Undertaker vs. HBK. And I'm pretty damn sure `Taker is leaving with his streak intact. Supposedly Shawn Michaels is having problems with his knees and is going to need significant time off to heal up (Haven't heard if he's going to need surgery or not), so him being destroyed by `Taker may be way to explain his absence.

(The reason I don't care about MITB? Because I have a horrible feeling Mark Henry might win, and I can't stand Mark Henry.)

Here are my thoughts... I was disappointed tonight. My friend who also watches wrestling felt the same. I'll just go by match.

MITB- I really didn't think they'd have Punk win it. We were both going crazy when it looked like Christian would have it, but it was better than I thought it would be. Henry and Kane actually had some good spots, but Shelton and Kofi did some really impressive spots as well. That bit with Christian knocking over the ladder but then stepping on the rope to propel himself back was great. The wrong man won in my opinion.

Diva Battle Royale- I had to find a different stream for the start of this, so I wasn't really sure who was in it. I was sad to see Kelly Kelly gone so early. They're really screwing her over this year because last year she was pinning Beth Phoenix and having great matches. Santino winning... couldn't predict that.

Legends vs Jericho- This was terrible until... Steamboat got in. HOLY "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!", Steamboat looked respectable and could still go. I was REALLY impressed and entertained by it. I would LOVE to see Steamboat and Jericho fight one on one. The ending with Rourke was a bit of a let-down as I was really hoping for him and Jericho to have an impromptu wrestling match, but it was still cool to see him KO Jericho.

Matt vs Jeff- I admit right now, it was a mistake watching all of those WM's that included the TLC and ladder matches featuring these guys. I was expecting more from this because of that. It just felt on the short side, but I still enjoyed it, especially with the table, ladder, and chair spots. That twist of fate at the end was sick. I am glad Matt won.

JBL vs Rey- Terrible, obviously. Really disappointing especially given the matches these 2 had 3 years ago. Plus this is the first IC title match at WM in YEARS. They really took a bit crap all over the legacy of the belt i'd say. If this really was JBL's last match then this is the worst way to go out. He gets beat quickly, in his home state after they had him go out there and trash it, and then leaves to a chorus of boo's. They didn't even have the decency to show him leaving the arena. My friend and I were both pretty upset by the way they handled this. You could see JBL really was choking on his words and fighting back the tears trying to say it, and then he has to snap back into the character before saying I quit. I know many don't like him, but like Lita before him he deserved a better way to go out.

HBK vs Taker- Match of the night, i'd say. It was fun to watch since it felt so much like something from the 90's. Lots of good counters, and we both thought that Taker was actually hurt after the top-rope dive. The ref even counted 9 twice. I am very glad 'Taker won as that streak shouldn't end. Awesome ending, too. Just one of those matches you gotta see.

Edge vs Cena vs Show- Okay... well, first of all this confirms that Edge is the whipping boy. Another really short reign? That's his 3rd since November I believe. Ridiculous. Cena did have a really cool 'Where's Waldo?" entrance, but other than that he was mostly boring. Putting Show and Edge on his shoulders briefly was cool, though. That spear Edge gave him in mid-air was awesome, too. Show did his usual thing, so he looked pretty decent tonight. Cena wins and... we were both really disappointed.

Orton vs HHH- Well, that RKO and pedigree at the start was interesting. Probably my 2nd favorite match of the night, but in my opinion Orton was carrying HHH. He (HHH) didn't look too impressive. That drop kick to HHH as he jumped off the top rope was awesome. What I don't get is why the ref wasn't counting when they were on the outside for like 3 minutes After Orton nails HHH, he goes in the ring and the ref FINALLY starts to count. So then we get the ref bump and we're sitting here excited because we both thought Shane would come down and turn on HHH... but nothing happens. Orton grabs sledge, HHH gets ahold of it, uses it, wins. It was crap. With that a discussion spawned about how the WWE is now too afraid to really try anything new. HHH is still main eventing WM's after almost 10 years, and sadly Cena has been doing the same for the last 5 WM's. I'm sorry, but Orton really deserves to be champ right now. HHH did little (besides sell) after the attack on Orton at his house to make this feud memorable, and I think it's a crime he keeps that belt. I guess on the positive side, at least Cena and HHH are on different shows... hopefully it stays that way.

So in all... I have a pretty good basis to compare this to other WrestleMania's. Of the most recent, I don't think it's nearly as good as last year or WM 23. Basically, I was disappointed by the title matches to a degree, but entertained by everything else. The most memorable part is definitely Steamboat vs Jericho, and I liked Austin's celebration; yet it was sad because that's probably the last time we'll see the man in the ring again.

As for predictions, I was 4-9. Not very good, but oh well. Carlito and Primo won which is an upset if you ask me. Raw should be interesting this week, but I am not too excited what with Cena being the champ again.

By the way, did anyone else try to stream WM tonight? I was just curious because the Sopcast link I had was a bogus, so I had to turn to Justin.TV and that was basically a battle against the WWE as they were shutting down streams left and right. I had to find a new one maybe every 45 minutes.

My thoughts, taken straight from my LJ:

Sucks to be Miz, Morrison, and the Colon brothers. Sucks even more to be Jack Swagger.

The Money in the Bank match was great as expected, but I wasn't expecting CM Punk to win again. I'm a big fan of the Punker, and his healthy lifestyle is sorely needed, but Shelton Benjamin is overdue to win this match.

Oh boy, the Divas battle royal! Sunny's back! And Torrie Wilson! And Victoria! And Molly Holly! Huh? Did I blink and miss them? I couldn't tell who they were in that mess, they weren't given introductions (thanks for going too long, Kid Rock), and nobody knew who they were until they were eliminated, and then only those at home who had the announcers telling us who got eliminated. Santino in drag was the saving grace.

Chris Jericho vs. the legends could've been worse. I knew we'd see Jericho vs. Mickey Rourke in the end, but I was hoping to see the Ram Jam. Steamboat looked good for a 56-year-old man who hasn't wrestled in 15 years.

Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels ruled. As expected. The Streak beat the Showstopper.

Hardy vs. Hardy was also really good.

Cena vs. Edge vs. Big Show was decent for what it was.

Rey Misterio vs. JBL: Ha ha! But Rey's Joker getup was really creepy.

For a match with so much heat going into it, HHH vs. Orton was really quite heatless, and the end was anticlimactic.

Decent show overall. Wrestlemania 26 is in Phoenix next year, I'll see if I can't go, depending on how quickly it sells out.

[quote]JBL No More, Thank You.
April 6th, 2009

It doesn’t get any bigger than Wrestlemania 25. WM 25 was in my home state of Texas with my childhood idols being inducted into the hall of fame.

I had wanted to make it to WM 25 for years, and when injuries cut my career short the one regret I had was that I wouldn’t make the 25th anniversary of Wrestlemania-well, I made it. I never dreamed after I retired the first time that my back would get better and I would be allowed to return to wrestling.

Standing there last night in front of over 70,000 people in my home state ended a journey that was unreal to me. For a kid from Sweetwater, Texas to be able to travel all over the world and realize his dream is pretty cool.

I don’t know what the future holds, never say never in life. But I have wrestled my last match. Months ago, I picked out this match. If Eddie Guerrero couldn’t be here for it then my dear friend Rey was the obvious choice, and I’m proud he was.

I want to thank the WWE for a great career, for taking a chance on me and allowing me the keys to the car for a while. I will always represent the WWE wherever I go, I am proud of my 13 ½ years with the WWE. And, I am proud of the WWE for cleaning up a great sport to make it more healthy to everyone that is a part.

However, I have no current plans on doing anything in the future on a professional level with WWE. I don’t plan on doing commentary, in fact; it hasn’t even been brought up to me. I don’t plan on being an on air character. I plan on starting the next chapter in my life, and closing the door on this one.

I have worked with some of the greatest people in the world; I have life long friends that are the best in the world. Everytime WWE is brought up or JBL,

I will smile. I having nothing but great, great memories.

I have several projects that I am working on that will keep me more than busy.

I have worked with Charlie Haas to reform www.custom-muscle.com and together we plan on being the best nutrition web site in the world. Check us out, you can buy Layfield Products there, but you can also buy all the cutting edge supplements in the nutrition world there-and the plain old everyday supplements as well.

We plan on offering a full service web site, from information to updates on the world of fitness and health and of course the best prices for supplements of all kinds.

I plan on hunkering down and building my companies. I plan on building a world class distribution service in Nashville and a top notch global beverage company. I have a deal in the banking world that I hope to get done that will allow the disabled the first fully access bank online.

I have had a life that I could have only dreamed of so far, but it is my time to say thank you and go away. I have nothing but great and fond memories and I want to leave before any of that changes, I swore I would never stay too long-I have too much respect for this business to do that.

You may see me in the WWE again, I don’t know-but that is not the plan. Right now, I have gotten up early today and am ready to go to work on the next part of my life that will hopefully exceed the first part.

I have been on the road for my entire adult life. I want to put the suitcases up and do my best to be successful outside of wrestling, today starts that journey.

Thanks to all you guys out there for cheering me, booing me and making signs about me. It is a little overwhelming to think of the great fans the WWE has today. I have been a bad guy for so long, and when I started you were a bad guy 24/7, I carried that mindset probably too long-well no more, today I am just a normal guy going to work.

It seems like yesterday I was sitting with my Grandfather watching wrestling, and telling him that one day I was going to be one of those guys. My grandfather never got to see me wrestle, but I am sure he is happy today. I hope Bobby Duncum Jr. and Eddie Guerrero were watching with him.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for allowing me to be a part of the great theater we call “sports entertainmentâ€

Well, at least WWE gave JBL the Intercontinental title so he could end up being one of the few wrestlers to be a "Grand Slam Champion". Sad to see him go in such a lame match though, he did deserve better. And what the hell is up with Mysterio and his ridiculous superhero / villian outfits? The Flash, The Joker, he had an all silver one a while ago too, don't know if he was trying to be the Silver Surfer or what, but common. The guy looks like an a$$clown when he puts on these suits.
