I was really hyped up for Space Godzilla. I remember hearing about the movie long before it was released here. It was from those new toys. I mean, they suddenly started having commercials for these new Godzilla toys and calls Space Godzilla his most dangerous adversary. SpaceG also looked pretty cool. I couldn't find the movie no matter what. Then came the internet and was delivered the bad news. Even then it was still the early days of the internet and it was a small print summary from the official 1998 movie site. When they finally released the movie here, I couldn't find it and ended up getting Godzilla Vs King Ghidorah and loved it. Years later the hype died down and I pretty much ignored the movie just based on word of mouth. It was only recently that I saw the movie on youtube (yes, I'm serious). I didn't really care for the movie anymore. It wasn't as bad as everyone says, but I'm glad I also lost the hype that I felt years ago.

Oh and... DESTOROYAH!!!!

Godzilla Vs. Destroyah is not a great movie, but still, it did have a lot of good things about it. Destroyah is certainly one of the better new adversaries for the Big G! (Just as great as any Ultra Monster.) Bringing this film to full circle from 1954 is a great way to tie things up. And Godzilla's demise was indeed sad, and makes this film hard to watch.

I wonder if James knew about the alternate ending, though . . .

My appreciation for Godzilla vs. Destoroyah has grown immensely over the years. I've always enjoyed it, but it's only recently that it's entered my top 5. In some ways, it reminds me of the tone of the Heisei Gamera films. It's brooding and serious, with enourmous consequences at stake, even for a kaiju film.

Plus, I mean, how can you go wrong with:

- A hyper-radioactive glowing and steaming Godzilla
- A devil-like, winged demon of monster that's downright awesome
- Godzilla Junior, who's actually a total badass
- A new Super-X
- Possible destruction of the world due to Godzilla's radioactive meltdown
- Tons of Oxygen Destroyer and Gojira (1954) references
- Destroyer's tranformations being an obvious homage to Hedorah
- The death of Godzilla

It's chocked full of orgasmic fanboy goodness!

Godzilla vs. Destroyah is one of my all time favorite Godzilla movies. Top 10 easily.

Also, with it showing the (long term) consequences that the Oxygen Destroyer brought, it really did tie in with the first film perfectly. The series really should have ended there (sorry GMK fanatics)

But why didn't James mention that the "plane that freezes him" was a third Super-X?

I was pleasantly surprised to see that the AVGN has a fondness for the Vs. Series. I was starting to think I was the only one who liked them. Spacegodzilla not included.

I only have the movie on VHS, so I never saw the bonus stuff on the DVD. Maybe I should get it if I see it cheap.
