Are these the real deal?

The first few times I saw sellers (including this same guy) selling loose Memorial Box figures, I thought nothing of it. No surprise there, because people have been doing that since its release, and I even have a black Gigan thanks to that. But the fact that this particular seller is located in Hong Kong and has been selling Mosu-Goji and Megaro-Goji, and ONLY those two last I checked, over and over, for such low prices, has been making me more suspicious.

Is this just the latest in a long line of imitations, like the never-tagged Megalons, Minyas and Little Godzillas?

I will call foul on this as the spine color does not match 2 different sites that display this figure. Compare below:

-- Mosu-Goji is on the left behind the 1955 figure.

Hope this helps.

Just to triple confirm it as a fruad I remember one member posted photos of his Memorial Box in the collection photo thread and the spines are painted completely wrong on the EBay fake. Compare:

I don't believe the figure is a knock off. They may have gotten them from a source in Japan that I purchased from as well. The seller in Japan was a wholesaler and had a small box full of 1964 Godzilla and 1974 Godzilla at two winter toys shows in 2007 and 2008 (I've sold most) at a very inexpensive price. They seem to vary a little bit from the ones in the box set. I never noticed the paint, but the tails are removable. However it's been reported that some of the box set figures had removable tails as well. I suspect these are some sort of sample from Bandai. Knock offs usually do not look quite like the originals due to the reverse engineering involved. These figures are exactely the same vinyl quality as the ones I find in the box set.

You can justify it however you wish, but after the insight others were able to add to the discussion, that doesn't add up. The absence of tags would also make sense with a Memorial Box figure, but not Godzilla 1974. He wasn't released like that in the box and hasn't been reissued in any form. The closest are the MG-arm version and Goji '75.

As for quality, .

I'm not going to call you a liar, but you don't even know the exact source for these. I bet that seller (conveniently?) didn't know much either. Boxes of extra figures like that should have caused some alarms to go off.

Besides how could someone end up with that many 1964 Godzillas outside of the Memorial Box set? That doesn't really add up. It's fishy that this many loose 1964 Godzillas are turning up for sale.

I ain't buying it.

Since Bandai has been producing the figures in China instead of Japan, the actual molds have been used to make these boots. This isn't the first time this has happened. Being that these are being made from the actual molds though, can you really consider them boot legs? I guess you have to considering they were not authorized by Bandai themselves.
