Okay, so I've had this set for a few weeks and now I feel comfortable sharing some thoughts:

I really enjoyed WotG... it has to have been about 10 years since I last saw any of that movie and it turned out to be just as awesome as I remembered. I still haven't watched the Japanese cut, but I plan to this weekend just to compare (I'm curious... Tamblyn was ADDED to scenes in the US cut? I can't imagine what scenes, he seemed pretty integral to all the ones he appeared in...)

Surprisingly, I was slightly disappointed by Rodan. I watched the Japanese cut and, while the print is GORGEOUS (compared to the previous Rodan DVD), I found subtitles to be... weird. I'm not sure what it is - maybe I'm too used to the VHS sub I've had for a few years - but something about this translation didn't sit right. I don't speak Japanese and I understand that you can easily end up with VERY different translations based on the same sentence, but... I don't know. Those of you who do understand Japanese, what did you guys think of the subs? Were you satisfied? Did CM (or whoever did the subs) translate too literally, or did they take some artistic license with it?

Finally, I snuck quick peeks at the Rodan US cut and Bringing Godzilla Down to Size. The documentary looks great, I can't wait to watch it! The American version of Rodan, on the other hand... WOW. What the hell happened? I don't remember the other release being THAT bad! Geez, couldn't they have tried to reassemble the American cut from the Japanese print?

Seriously, it's not THAT hard... an Intern spending a few weeks on Final Cut Pro could've been enough. Ah well, maybe I could try it as a pet project one day.

Otherwise, I think this was a great set and I'm overall happy with it! I don't recall if CM has anything still left in their library to release, but if so I look forward to it! :)
