not to mention that consumers letting go of the hard copy is giving that much more control over how, when & where you can watch movies (& how OFTEN) to the studios.... Studios who would LOVE to make you pay EVERY time you wanted to watch it....
As for bluray, I don't see it going anywhere soon. Evolve? yeah, but so did every media format before it. Plus, my wife just bought me a PS3 as a surprise last week (as mentioned in the thread i made in general discussion) & i'd hate for it to become obsolete in just a few years. & as Tom says, bluray DOES make a huge difference if you have the right setup. I've had HD cable for a few years & while it looks good, i'd say that wasn't THAT much better than really well don dvds (better, just not hugely so). but when you have a properly calibrated bluray setup... HOLY COW!

It blows dvd away. It finally actually feels like watching a FILM at home. Not a movie. But an actual film. on film. It's that good.
So, that being said... Toho, PLEASE hurry up (well, don't rush, do a good job...) & get these restored Godzilla movies & other Kaiju films out on bluray!! & PLEASE put english subtitles on the discs for once!! I want to learn japanese anyway, but i'm not so sure my wife or friends would really want to...
