I picked up Terror of Mechagodzilla today from Best Buy. Good price at $12.99.

The backside of the package indicates "Original Japanese Trailer" as does the band, but the disc label itself says nothing about any trailer.

There's no trailers in this DVD. So if you bought the box set, I wouldn't recommend getting the single if trailers are all you want.

a double-feature DVD?

Postby Damascinos » Sat May 31, 2008 1:34 am

This link, shared over at the AVmaniacs forum, promises Rodan and War Of The Gargantuas coming in September as a double-feature DVD. How legitimate does this sound to people? Is this the first hint?

While I would definitely prefer two separate but simultaneous DVD releases, a single-packaged release would be alright if it was a two-disc set. Barring that, a flipper disc would be the next best thing; dual-layered on each side. If it ends up being one single-sided, dual-layered disc, then this could bode badly. There's no way they'd fit two versions of each movie on something like that without serious compression issues, but the more likely scenario if they do go that route is that they'd only be releasing one version of each movie. Bad news either way.

On the other hand, if this is a 2-disc set, with one for both versions of [b:"OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!"]Rodan[/b:"OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!"] and the other for both versions of [b:"OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!"]WOTG[/b:"OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!"], plus any extras... well, wouldn't that be contender for DVD set of the year? Impossible at that price? I just bought [b:"OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!"]Frankenstein vs Baragon[/b:"OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!"] for less.

Rumor—again R-U-M-O-R (so don't sue me if it pans out not to be true)—has it that these discs will not feature Audio Commentaries. It would be a shame if they do not include, at the very least, the US and Japanese versions of each film, because that will keep the bootleggers in business.

I don't understand. Have their Godzilla releases been selling so poorly that they feel the need to skimp on these films?
