28 weeks later already did that.
As much as Goji 54 had hiroshima imagery and Clovery clearly had 9-11 footage, I say shove commentaries as a whole, especially a series. It's somewhat very self absorbed and done to death. Granted Romero pulled it off pretty well consistantly, but at some point you run the risk of being a Michael Moore and not a cool monster movie.
Now maybe using millitary strategies against clover with news footage in a similar vein to your bombastic fox/CNN stuff maybe, but again I say its been done too much already. Which is why I agree with many that they maybe need to leave Clovie alone, a sequel is VERY hard. The ideas we keep suggesting are gimmick based and I think its wrong to try to one up something simply based on gimmick. If there were a sequel it has to be full on monster action, as we already know what Cloverfield is-which creates a box office potential problem. Course IMO had everyone known Clover was a Kaiju film to begin with, the box office would have been a LOT lower. I think the general public had to be tricked into seeing a giant monster flick. So a nerd fest(like we'd all like here) of monster fights might not happen due to studio pressure to make it generate moola.
Personally I'm content with the Manga they've done for any further clover stuff.
