I think the first movie would definitely be less interesting to me once a sequel comes along and throws a bunch of explanation and backstory into the mix. It's meant to stand alone.

GAH... what if Toho follows suite and we get a shaky camera Godzilla movie?!?!?

Seems like they tend to follow American trends, after-all (Terminator and Aliens/Predator, anyone?). Even G2000 aped Gino in ways. God let's hope not.

2 random thoughts on the DVD BTW.

-Again that composer totally did a "Rich Little" of Ifakube. Forgot his name, but he did an equally well job of channeling John Barry's Bond themes for "the incredibles".(check it out, its really just like Barry).

no small feat as there aren't too many good Ifakube or Barry type compsers these days. Especially ones who have distinct themes for characters.

-Only complaint about the dvd is the sound. Needes THX. I have a kick ass theatre set up and in the theatre the monster practically broke your eardrums with his footsteps and screech. Pretty mellow on the 5.1.

and hype aside-I still really like the film. Its no Blair Witch where you watch it again and go "ughhh", I think it still is very well done and a perfect post 9-11 myspace generation Godzilla.
