Heh, I remember those times, but I never saw Final Wars until it hit R1 DVD. I was nothing but a spectator before, during, and after the huge fandom controversy it stirred up, and it was surreal to watch. But even when I finally did see the movie after knowing virtually everything about it inside and out beforehand, it still managed to take me by surprise. I don't think there was any real way for anybody to be prepared for what it was like. I for one loved it, sloppy though it is.

I'll have to hold up my hands and say that I really can't remember the Final Wars days - that said, I can't remember what I did last week - and I've been around since... maybe the days when Godzilla x Megaguiras had been announced? MZ was probably the first message board I ever signed up to when I first discovered this Interweb business. I do remember the occasional run-in I think I had with ebirahsmeg1 over the likes of either Godzilla x MechaGodzilla or Godzilla: Tokyo SOS (or maybe both).

It's always kinda strange when you think back to people who you used to chat with and you realise you've never heard from in absoultely ages, members like Decimator and China. It's a real shame concerning China, having read through this thread, she always seemed like such a nice lady. And she thought the Aston Martin DB9 picture I posted in a car thread was 'sexy', so more props to her.

Another regret I have is the falling out I had with Zebulun waaaay back in the days when we had the WDF on the board. A few of us held a chat to discuss stuff that we weren't overly keen on for that, and I - rather stupidly - decided to e-mail Z the transcript, and it all went really Pete Tong from there. Never really spoke to him after that. In a way, I'd kinda like to, but it's a case of what to say.

As of late, I've never really been around MZ as much as I used to, though that's probably because there are no new Godzilla movies to discuss and the like, but also the movings-on of members who I considered pals. I remember back to the days when the forum was red and black and I went by the username of DesuGoji.

Halcyon days... man, I feel kind depressed now.

I just remember how everyone acted like I was a complete idiot when the Monster-X promo art came out and I said "hey those spikes on the shoulders look like half of the head, maybe that thing grows into some form of Ghidorah."

I remember getting a lot of crap from some members after I posted the 90% accurate, finalized monster line-up for Final Wars in April '04. It's amazing how many people didn't believe it or just refused to believe it.

It's just really funny in retrospect how crazy things got around here. I guess I've blocked a lot of that stuff out (or I just can't remember) because I can't cite many specific examples but it seemed any open FW thread was an invite for lots and lots of nonsense.

I'll admit I severely dislike Final Wars. It's probably one of my least favorite Godzilla films. But it just seemed like there were several people who took their dislike of the movie to ridiculous levels. These were the uber fans, the guys who felt their involvement in the fandom meant that their opinions were usually the right ones and those who saw past FW's flaws and enjoyed it anyway were obviously idiots. I remember hearing about the "you ruined Godzilla" statment that may or may not have been said at the premiere and was troubled how the person who said it (who I had known personally) would say something like that. How could something offend a person that much to make them resort to that sort of behavior. Hey, it's just a movie.

But BOY were things heated.
