Also, the sword seems to be part of the monster's cult. You can see it in his hand in the manga.

The sword logo has so far showed up in all of Cloverfield's viral sites.

I saw both "alternate endings" on youtube and neither of them are really "alternate endings"- They just show different carnival footage after the main characters get buried... HARDLY worth the "alternate ending" tag, but hey, I guess that sells more DVDs.

regardless of the b.s. alternate ending gimmick, I think I heard some of the extra footage actually involves the creature itself and those tentacle like lower appendages.

For everyone wondering where the stills from The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, King Kong and Them! were in the movie, the riddle has been solved!

The stills were inserted randomly throughout the movie in a subliminal manner (so they pop up for about split a second frame or two, then go away). Think Captain Howdy in the Exorcist.
