Shouldn't need Cable to view a network show, just a set of Rabbit Ears.
They should still be Open Air broadcasting for a while yet.
Myself, I don't get all the complaints about Product Placement.
I agree it should be a bit more Subtle than, say, KR's Closeups of the Emblems on the car.. ("Look at Me!! I'm a COBRA!!") but it helps to make the movie/TV Show a bit cheaper to make..
OK, Say you're filming a Knight Rider movie that featured a Custom built Fictional Exotic car (The "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" Child of a Lambo & a Koeniseg) That car could cost upwards of $100K to $200K to build.. and then you'd need SEVERAL to film in 'cos you need camera mounts bolted/welded on and partial cars & etc. to do the filming..
(I was once told that they used near to 15 VW Beetles making the first Herbie movie. )
Now say you decide to go with a current year model production musclecar. So you reach an agreement with Ford.. They'll Loan/lease/Sell at substantial discount you the vehicles in exchange for prominent use in your movie..
